Reports to: Principal & Athletic Director
Job SummaryThe Women's Basketball Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the women's basketball program, including recruitment, training, and development of student-athletes. The coach will work to develop a competitive, successful team while promoting academic achievement and personal growth. This role requires strong leadership, communication skills, and a commitment to the values and mission of Person High School.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Management and Development:
- Plan, organize, and conduct practices and workouts.
- Develop game strategies, playbooks, and game plans.
- Analyze team performance and provide constructive feedback to athletes.
- Foster a positive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal development.
- Recruitment:
- Identify and recruit players.
- Develop relationships with prospective student-athletes and their families.
- Player Development:
- Provide individualized training to enhance players' skills and performance.
- Monitor academic progress and support the educational goals of student-athletes.
- Mentor athletes on personal development and life skills.
- Game Management:
- Prepare and manage all aspects of game day, including travel, equipment, and logistics.
- Scout opposing teams and analyze game footage.
- Lead the team during competitions, making real-time decisions to maximize performance.
- Administrative Duties:
- Manage the basketball program budget, including equipment, arranging travel, practice sessions, etc.
- Ensure compliance with all school, conference, and NCHSAA rules and regulations.
- Coordinate with athletic director on scheduling, facilities, and event management.
- Complete any and all online safety trainings required annually prior to season.
- Community Engagement:
- Promote the women's basketball program within the community and school.
- Organize and participate in community service and outreach activities.
- Foster relationships with alumni and boosters to support the program.
- Experience: Previous coaching experience required; coaching experience at the high school level preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of basketball techniques, strategies, and rules.
- Strong leadership and motivational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Capability to demonstrate basketball techniques.
- Travel for away games.
