POSITION SUMMARY

The Shelter Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Pet Allies’ animal care and services activities. The Shelter Manager will work to ensure that animals move through our system efficiently and that each animal receives the care it needs during its stay. The position of Shelter Manager includes hands-on shelter work (including direct animal care and handling) as well as administrative, supervisory, and personnel-related duties. The Shelter Manager is charged with keeping an eye on the “big picture” in an effort to ensure efficiency, a high standard of care for our animals, and a positive and productive workplace for our animal care staff.

ESSENTIAL ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS

• Convene shelter staff to address daily, short term, and long term needs

• Supervise, provide direction to, and support shelter staff

• Compile and report shelter statistics (i.e. intakes, adoption, surgery schedules, euthanasia’s, supplies, etc.)

• Assist in the development and implementation of operational and organizational policies and procedures

• Create, in a timely manner, and effectively manage the weekly staff schedule

• Oversee the hiring, evaluation, supervision, and dismissal of animal care and adoption staff

• Address and resolve personnel disputes, requesting support from the E.D. as needed

• Assist with development of annual budget in relation to shelter revenue and expenses

• Be responsible for shelter inventory and ordering necessary supplies.

· Work with clinic staff to ensure that animals receive necessary medical care, vaccinations, and surgeries prior to adoption.

· Coordinate animals for foster care and sleepovers.

· Other responsibilities as directed

ESSENTIAL OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONS

• Assist animal care staff in the cleaning, feeding, and care of shelter animals as needed

• Oversee and ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of the facility

• Maintain supply inventory either directly or by delegation (including adoption and cleaning related supplies)

• Supervise space management

• Manage training of animal care and adoption staff, work study students, and interns

• Staff lobby, process intakes, and facilitate adoptions as needed

• Respond to unsatisfied visitors/callers as needed

• Manage and supervise volunteers in collaboration with supervisors and Volunteer Coordinator

• Maintain, update, and implement standard operating procedures

• Create and prioritize project and task lists

• Assist with behavioral evaluation/assessment of dogs and cats as needed

• Lead daily “rounds” meetings or delegate to supervisors

• Facilitate donation of excess supplies to food shelf or other entities/organizations

• Work with Animal Control Officers and Feline/Canine Supervisors to accommodate relinquished and seized animals

• Work with the Clinic manager to maintain and keep an up to date health checkup and surgery schedule for all shelter pets

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

· Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

· Adept and flexible multi-tasking abilities

· Moderate to advanced computer and phone literacy

· Knowledgeable in animal care and commitment to animal welfare

· Upbeat, friendly, and outgoing personality

· Ability to work well under pressure and in intense and emotional situations on a daily basis

· Integrity and honesty in dealing with all facets of position

· Advanced knowledge of animal behavior, experience in training a plus

· Willingness to work as a team member, pitch in as needed, and have fun

· 3 years experience in an animal shelter or similar

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
