Requisition SummaryThis position is looking for a mechanical or electrical engineer with interest in supporting design and development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for Kenworth and Peterbilt Heavy Duty, Medium Duty and Refuse trucks. ADAS engineer will interact with Product Planning, Engineering, and Marketing & Sales to understand the customer requirements, to develop design concepts and to implement the ADAS systems on PACCAR trucks.
The scope of work starts with reviewing the Product Description Book (PDB), developing early requirement document for supplier selection, creating Technical Requirement Specification (TRS), designing the specific parts and systems in assigned phases of projects, interact with the supplier and test engineers to verify/validate the design. ADAS engineer will employ innovation skills to mature ideas from concept into implementation by applying standard engineering techniques. The degree of supervision will vary with experience.
Job Functions / ResponsibilitiesHiring level will be commensurate with experience and skills.
  • Coordinate with Product Planning, Manufacturing & PACCAR Parts to align major program book of wishes and identify all customer requirements which cascade into design requirements.
  • Provide timely definition of design requirements by completing major program Product Description Books (PDB), establishing project scope, vehicle requirements and performance targets.
  • Participate in ADAS system supplier selection process by creating and communicating the system expectations.
  • Review product and feature specs from the ADAS component suppliers
  • Apply knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems to design and implement ADAS systems.
  • Coordinates design efforts with internal engineering groups and the ADAS system suppliers.
  • Directs and conducts necessary baseline and benchmark testing to establish program goals.
  • Interact with verification and validation teams to ensure ADAS feature performance.
  • Follow software defect resolution life cycle and bring them to a closure.
  • Provide engineering assistance, perform problem resolution, training and other engineering duties supporting various aspects of heavy truck production.
  • Prepares engineering activity status reports and other detailed reporting as directed.
  • Up to 5% travel may be required
Skills
  • Manages multiple tasks, takes initiative, team player, problem-solver, professional and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of ADAS features.
  • Experience developing vehicle ADAS systems a plus.
  • Experience working with J1939 CAN a plus.
  • Previous design experience of parts and assemblies
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in heavy truck assembly, heavy truck components and systems.
  • Experience with six sigma tools such as QFD, DFMEA and DVP
  • Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using Pro-E and/or Mentor Graphics
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field is required.
  • New graduate to experienced level candidates are encouraged to apply.
