Department Overview
Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas Transmission and Distribution operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.
Position Summary
Gas System Operator is a shift employee who performs Gas System Operator work as an assistant to and under the direct supervision of a Gas System Operator. Under the direction of the Gas System Operator, Apprentice/Provisional Gas System Operator is responsible for remotely operating (via computer) and manually monitoring the high-pressured natural gas transmission pipeline and communicating system status.
Provisional Journeyman – Transmission Gas System Operator is one who will be expected to successfully complete their training to become a qualified Journeyman Operator. Must comply with PHMSA Control Room Management Regulation, 49 CFR 192.631. A Transmission Gas System operator monitors the gas Transmission system, is a safety champion, has a high level of analytical skills and is trained to recognize an Abnormal Operating Condition (AOC), do an analysis of pressure trends and make a callout to the field. Ability to recognize both audible and visual alarms is a requirement of the position. Gas Control monitors the entire service territory for PG&E so we handle many emergencies daily and are highly trained in emergency response. You will work in a control room with a high level of technology that is recognized industry wide.
This position is subject to Joint Apprentice Training Committee (JATC) review and approval at time of hire. Provisional hires will be required to participate in targeted training to achieve journey-level knowledge of the role and responsibilities.
PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $65.41 per hour. This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.
This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.
