PharmEng Technology is seeking a Business Unit Manager in Barcelona, Spain.

Job Overview

You will identify new business opportunities in order to generate revenue, improve profitability, and help the business grow.

Your work can involve careful strategic planning and positioning in the appropriate markets, or enhancing the operation of the business, position or reputation in some way.

You may have a single role in the organisation or lead a team of staff. Your work will often reach across all areas of the business.

Functions

You will need to:

  • Research and identify new business opportunities - including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products and services - or new ways of reaching existing markets
  • Seek out the appropriate contact in an organisation
  • Generate leads and cold call prospective customers
  • Meet with customers/clients face to face or virtually (Phone, Teams and Zoom Meeting, etc)
  • Foster and develop relationships with potential and current customers/clients
  • Understand the needs of your customers and be able to respond effectively with a plan of how to meet these
  • Think strategically - seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve the business
  • Work strategically - carrying out necessary planning in order to implement operational changes
  • Have a good understanding of the businesses' products or services, and be able to advise others about them
  • Ensure staff are on board throughout the organisation, and understand the need for change and what is required of them
  • Train members of local sales team, arranging external training where appropriate
  • Discuss promotional strategy and activities with the marketing department
  • Liaise with the finance team 
  • Seek ways of improving the way the business operates
  • Attend seminars, conferences, and events where appropriate
  • Keep abreast of trends and changes in the business world
  • Help to plan sales campaigns
  • Create a sales pipeline
  • Negotiate pricing with customers, and suppliers in some cases
  • Increase sales of the business
  • Carry out sales forecasts and analysis and present your findings to senior management/the board of directors
  • Develop the business sales and marketing strategy
  • Support Marketing & Communication Teams to assist with direction and activity of promotional initiatives as required
  • Contribute to the content and delivery of promotional literature as required

Qualifications & Skills

You will need to have:

  • EU citizenship mandatory
  • A Science University Degree with proofing track of Business Development in the science consulting industry 
  • Fluent English
  • French and Spanish are a plus
  • Proficiency in other European languages is a plus
  • A history of high-profile clients and their various projects throughout industry
  • 7 years related experience
  • Strong knowledge in FDA and European regulations 
  • A flexible approach to work with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Tenacity and drive to seek new business and meet or exceed targets
  • An excellent telephone manner for making initial contact and for ongoing communication with customers and business associates
  • Interpersonal skills for building and developing relationships with clients
  • IT skills, including the use of spreadsheets
  • Teamworking skills and a collaborative approach to work
  • Project management and organisational skills
  • Negotiating skills
  • The ability to analyse sales figures and write reports
  • Initiative and the confidence to start things from scratch
