TEACHER QUALITY SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Teacher Quality Specialist

SUPERVISES: Programs and personnel to be determined by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

JOB GOAL:

  • Models professional learning, compliance efforts and growth through participation in and/or leadership of job-embedded professional development activities.
  • Expresses commitment to compliance efforts, support the school based and or district level area of assignment, and development of new and veteran teachers and exemplify enthusiasm for student success.
  • Demonstrates strong facilitation skills and effectiveness in provision of professional development and/or training to individuals and groups that are school based and or district level.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Bachelors Degree
  • Possess Alabama Certification.
  • Five years of successful teaching experience and are recognized for their instructional Leadership.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board might find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Designated School Based Administrator, District Coordinator and/or District Director dependent upon area of Teacher On Assignment designated area of support

SALARY: To be determined commensurate with local salary matrix, credentials, and experience.

Purpose Statement

A Teacher Quality Specialist in a K-12 public school setting plays a crucial role in ensuring educational excellence through the development and support of faculty and staff members. The focus of this position is on improving instructional practices, fostering professional development, enhancing overall teaching quality which results in student achievement, mentoring and coaching teachers that results in retaining effective staff, and assisting with state and federal documentation requirements. The Teacher Quality Specialist must be an expert in pedagogy, a skilled communicator, and a passionate advocate for educational excellence.

Essential Functions

  • Assists the Department of Teaching and Learning and/or assigned Department to develop and maintain professional learning systems for the purpose of addressing the training needs and supports for school based and/or district employees.
  • Assists and provides support to administrators and academic coaches with interventions for teachers identified with a performance issue for the purpose of developing effective teachers and addressing teacher retention.
  • Collaborates with Coordinators and/or Directors to analyze the instructional program and curriculum for the purpose of improving identified areas of student strengths and weaknesses and continuous enhancement of student performance.
  • Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g. other administrators, teachers, public agencies, community members, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
  • Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit can be met.
  • Facilitates meetings and/or workshops for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as a school based and/or district representative to include: Best Practice Workshops, New Teacher Orientation, etc.
  • Plans and facilitates training opportunities for teachers as identified by school based and/or district needs for the purpose of ensuring highly effective faculty and staff members are maintained on a school based and/or district level.
  • Provides extensive, responsible leadership in the provision of professional development, mentoring, and coaching for exemplary practices for the purpose of enhancing student learning and compliance.
  • Provides support and assistance to teachers and administrators for the purpose of ensuring highly effective instructional staff are maintained on a school based and/or district level.
  • Provides support/mentoring to Academic Coaches, Teacher Support Coaches, new and veteran teachers for the purpose of developing effective teachers and addressing teacher retention.
  • Provides assistance to school based and/or district level to improve student achievement by facilitating development activities pertaining to Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS), addressing the needs of diverse learners, inclusionary practices, and high-yield strategies consistent with the latest research from the exceptional student education/ special education, general education, and community resources for the purpose of ensuring student success.
  • Trains school based and/or district level faculty and staff for the purpose of compliance, supporting instructional staff development and ensuring highly qualified staff are maintained.
  • Works closely with district Coordinators and/or Directors in implementing specific school based and/or district initiatives for the purpose of supporting student success.
  • Works closely with school-based administrators and teachers to enhance best practices for the purpose of supporting student success.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. In addition to being a Teacher On Assignment to support various departments to include but not limited to Special Education, STEM, General Education, etc…

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • At least five years of previous successful classroom teaching
  • Recent experience working effectively with students and/or faculty and staff members in a supportive and impactful role yielding beneficial results
  • Strong organizational, time management, problem solving and documentation skills
  • Previous experience providing instructional support /or professional development for teachers
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experiences in research-based instructional practices
