Salary: $50 - $80 per hour depending on experience

At the Insured Retirement Institute (IRI), we are passionate about championing retirement security for all Americans. Our dedicated team works collaboratively to address federal regulatory issues and developments that impact our industry. We are seeking a skilled Federal Regulatory Affairs Consultant to join us during a parental leave (Mid-July - November 2024).

Responsibilities: As the Federal Regulatory Affairs Consultant, you will play a crucial role in shaping our policy positions and engagement strategies.

  • Issue Identification and Analysis
    • Lead and guide IRI members in monitoring and analyzing federal regulatory issues.
    • Formulate policy positions and engagement strategies related to emerging developments.
    • Collaborate with other industry associations to advocate for consensus industry positions.
  • Committee Liaison
    • Serve as the primary staff liaison for the Securities Committee and the Retirement plans & Tax Committee.
    • Lead working groups and task forces to address specific issues.
  • Effective Communication
    • Draft comment letters, testimony, and talking points to effectively communicate IRI’s positions to federal policymakers on relevant issues and developments.
    • Represent IRI in meeting with policymakers, educating and advocating for IRI’s stances.
  • Resources Management
    • Create and maintain trackers and other resources to keep IRI members informed about relevant issues and developments.
    • Establish and nurture relationships with federal policymakers

Other Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with colleagues on various IRI initiatives, including operations and technology projects, research initiatives, and membership growth strategies.
    • Contributes to the weekly Government Affairs Update and CEO report to the IRI Board of Directors
    • Prepares memoranda on significant developments and committee activities related to federal regulatory issues for the IRI Board and Board Advocacy Working Group.
    • Performs other projects and functions as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Regulatory Experience

  • Thorough understanding of the regulatory process
  • Successful leadership or active contribution to developing effective strategies influencing federal rules and guidance

Analytical Skills

  • Excellent critical, analytical, and strategic thinking skills
  • Interpretation and analysis of laws, rules, and guidance proposed by federal policy makers.

Communication and Leadership

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead committees, working groups, and task forces.
  • Ability to foster relationships with federal policymakers.

Presentation and Organization

  • Comfort with presenting to various audiences.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Collaboration

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
