What the Support Assistant Teacher does:

FUNCTIONS:

In coordination with Related Services, Behavior Department and Classroom staff, Support Assistant Teachers provide support to classroom staff for both academic and behavior programming.

DUTIES:

• Assists in training new classroom teacher assistants.
• Substitutes for absent classroom, behavior and career staff.
• Documents activities, lessons and attendance when substituting for classroom staff.
• Provides supervision for students during arrival and dismissal along with hallway transitions.
• Assists in implementing individual and group behavior management programs.
• Assists in implementing the academic goals and objectives on student’s IEPs.
• Provides assistance during special student school events, e.g., student parties, field trips, student performances and special reinforcement programs.

Qualifications

What the Classroom Based Support Assistant brings to the team:

• BA/BS preferred, High school diploma, required.
• Good organization and communication skills.
• Experience in special needs school environment working with children or adolescents, preferred.
