Phillips Whisnant Gazin Gorczyca & Curtin, LLP is an Orange County family law firm serving high-income and high-net-worth clients in Orange County. We represent business owner/operators, celebrities, and other high-profile parties and their spouses in marital dissolution (divorce) and paternity cases. The work involves characterizing and valuing assets and debts (often including business valuation), determining controllable cash flow available for support, and resolving child custody disputes. As a result, our attorneys must possess or develop substantive knowledge of not only family law, but corporate finance, tax, property, business organizations (corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, etc.), civil discovery, law & motion, and trial practice.

Role Description

We want to add a full-time, on-site associate attorney, assisting a partner with day-to-day case and client management. Associate attorneys ensure cases progress toward resolution and clients' litigation objectives are met or exceeded. A partner will oversee the associate's work, but this is not a role for an attorney interested in "first drafts." We expect our associate attorneys to deliver finished products. Our associate attorneys are client-facing, and regularly engage with opposing counsel and experts, as well.

Representative tasks include legal research and drafting, propounding and responding to discovery requests, analyzing documents and information to populate marital balance sheets and calculate support; corresponding with clients, experts, and opposing counsel, participating in case strategy sessions; and participating in depositions, settlement conferences, law & motion practice, evidentiary hearings, and trials. Successful associate attorneys may eventually handle their own caseloads.

Qualifications

All of our attorneys are client-facing. Each possesses unique skills and personalities. We hire quality attorneys who fit within our culture and whom we expect to be successful. While not required, an ideal candidate would be a Certified Family Law Specialist with 5-7 years of experience and all of the substantive knowledge described in the "Firm Description" section above. We have hired general civil attorneys with no family law experience, and we have hired family law attorneys who have not been exposed to business and complex financial issues.

The following skills/qualities are requirements:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
• Admitted and in good standing with the California State Bar
• Professional demeanor and high ethical standards
• Strong legal research and drafting skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Compensation

Compensation will be determined by the candidate's experience and substantive expertise. We value our people and compensate them accordingly. Again, we have very low turnover.
