Position Title: EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) Manager
Reports To: Regional EHS Manager
Overview of Position:
The EHS Manager is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Health and Safety programs within the Phoenix Global Safety Management System. Responsible for new hire site-specific safety orientation, coordination of on-site safety meetings, conducting safety training, supporting incident investigation efforts, and conducting and documenting on-site safety audits. Responsibilities also include promoting proactive and preventive safety activities by observing, analyzing, encouraging safe work behaviors, and correcting unsafe conditions. Must ensure OSHA regulations, internal and customer safety policies, and procedures are being followed.
This role must also establish safety goals, reinforce safety policies and procedures, monitor safety metrics, and support and coach supervisors and employees. Providing feedback to encourage learning, monitoring safety compliance, creating awareness, and setting priorities that focus on continuous improvement in critical in this role.
Primary Responsibilities:
Ensures that all safety programs (lockout/tag out, hazard communication, hearing conservation, personal protective equipment, etc.) are fully implemented and in compliance.
Investigates all incidents, accidents and near-miss to determine root cause and corrective actions; expected to respond on site when incidents occur to lead/assist investigation and reporting.
Coordinate/manage post injury care/follow up working with workers compensation insurance.
Ensures that all occupational illnesses and injuries are recorded according to OSHA standards.
Conducts audits for safety to ensure compliance during operations; works with maintenance teams and operations to ensure inspections are completed as required.
Develops and delivers all levels of safety training, including required monthly training using resources such as MTS/KPA Flex and orientation for all employees; training may be computer based or instructor led.
Prepares, presents, and documents daily safety toolbox talk for site workers.
Observes, identifies and records safety observations, both negative and positive in nature, daily.
Provides support for planned confined space entries; critical lifts, energy control/lock out, fall protection and Hazmat protocol.
Observes relevant safety, accident prevention and environmental regulations.
Works with management on safety matters and on problem corrections
Attend/participate in mill safety meetings.
Performs any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall site safety operations.
Review and sign acknowledgements for all Phoenix Corporate Health and Safety Policies within 30 days of hire.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment and a heavy industrial setting requiring a sense of high-level safety reverence using the required PPE for the environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, smartphones, and photocopiers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This job requires the employee to lift at least 25 pounds infrequently.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in safety, Business Administration, or combination of three to five years of safety experience and education
Preferred Education and Experience:
In lieu of bachelor’s degree, experience with safety certifications or training
