POSITION TITLE: BUYER
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Buyer is responsible for purchasing goods to support external and internal customers. This position requires a results-oriented individual who works independently with minimal supervision. This position reports directly to the Purchasing Manager.
CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT (SALARIED) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reviews purchase requisitions for accuracy and completeness.
• Solicits bids, evaluates quotations, and makes supplier selections.
• Assists with supplier relations, including submitting Phoenix’s credit information, establishing a supplier record in the database, qualifying suppliers, negotiating with suppliers, collecting various types of data from suppliers, etc.
• Issues purchase orders (POs).
• Maintains PO files in accordance with Contractor Purchasing System Review (CPSR) audit requirements.
• Conducts product and supplier research with assistance from technical staff.
• Performs expediting functions.
• Creates and submits reports for review by various managers.
• Creates reports to manage procurement functions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Purchasing.
• Above average aptitude to handle administrative tasks.
• Working knowledge of supplier – buyer relationships.
• Detail oriented and focused on accuracy.
• Understanding of basic contract law and legal documents.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of procurement and related law: FAR, DFAR, and UCC desired.
• Basic understanding of price analysis and market research.
• Experience in the undersea industry desired.
• Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), and math skills.
• Ability to meet critical deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Computer skills with competence in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically MS Access and Excel.
• At least 35 wpm keyboarding skills.
• Superior comprehension skills.
• Ability to travel within the United States.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and physical, if required.
