Managed as part the Riverbend Industries portfolio, Phoenix Manufacturing, Inc (“PMI”) designs, markets, sales, and manufactures various high-efficiency residential and industrial evaporative cooler systems under the Frigiking®, Aerocool®, and Ecokool® brands. For almost fifty years, PMI has been providing quality cooling solutions and exceptional customer service to customers across the western United States and beyond. 

Riverbend Industries Inc. (“RBI”) is a private family-owned portfolio holding company headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The portfolio is primarily comprised of several small, independently operated, previously family-run businesses in the light manufacturing and distribution sectors. The portfolio is a long-term holder of its investments and plans to grow both organically and through acquisitions into the foreseeable future.

We are searching for a reliable, deadline driven Mig Welder to join our team of skilled professionals. The Mig Welder’s responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, selecting appropriate tools and metal, measuring, and assembling metal pieces, using cutting tools, determining gas ratios, drilling holes, and monitoring inventory. The right candidate will have experience with the proficient use of stick electrode and/or mig and/or gas welding technique. This person should demonstrate excellent quality, production, teamwork, and safety awareness. 

The Mig Welder will have several Roles and Responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:

  • Lead by example with a Safety First mindset in every task
  • Must be able to weld and/or braze metals, steel, and/or copper as required per job assignment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Plans work within limits of established procedure on parts, sub-assemblies, or complete assemblies
  • Sets up parts, sub-assemblies, and complete assemblies to be welded with the aid of jigs and fixtures
  • Aligns and positions various components in proper relationship to one another and welds in proper sequence
  • Set-up welding machine for welding parts or assemblies of light weight material involving seams, flanges, and edges; butt and lap welding of parts and assemblies involved in the fabrication of furnaces
  • Includes brazing of parts which are to be machined using exacting tolerances where overall penetration is a vital factor and must be uniform
  • Completes repair and rework as required
  • Selecting, measuring, cutting, and joining appropriate metals to specifications
  • Preparing metals and work surfaces to ensure safe and effective assembly
  • Interpreting specifications and blueprints accurately
  • Training welding apprentices and mentoring recruits
  • Regularly cleaning and inspecting welding equipment and tools
  • Operating cranes and other machinery to transport materials to welding worksites.
  • Determining correct gas ratios
  • Testing the strength of each join during and after project completion.
  • Diagnosing issues and troubleshooting as required
  • Liaising with the Coordinator or Supervisor, reporting any issues, and making suggestions for improvement.
  • Measure, cut, and assemble metal projects using an electric arc and inert gas
  • Select suitable material, ensure the work area is safe, prepare metal surfaces, determine gas ratios, and inspect weld strength during and after the welding process
  • Must perform all work in accordance with all applicable safety procedures
  • Assist in other areas of need based on Supervisor/Manager discretion
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1-2 years’ experience in MIG and/or TIG welding
  • A relevant certificate from a welding association preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints pertaining to welding
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty efficiently, safely and in an acceptable manner
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; follow written and/or verbal orders
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Understand fundamentals of material flow through production floor
  • Working knowledge of tools and machinery
  • The ability and desire to work overtime is required
  • Regularly lift and/or move objects 20-25 lbs.; occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 lbs 
  • Able to withstand temperatures in a typical warehouse environment
