Job Summary

PIC Group has an excellent opportunity for a Plant Engineer at a combined-cycle facility located in Mankato, MN. The Plant Engineer reports to the Plant Manager and plays a crucial role in overseeing capital project management, plant engineering, operations & maintenance support, and compliance at the plant. The Plant Engineer ensures optimal plant availability, thermal efficiency, and cost-effective production while providing technical expertise for process improvements and other engineering functions. The Plant Engineer is an integral member of the plant’s team working closely with the Plant Manager and Operations and Maintenance Manager.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assist the Plant Manager in overseeing critical programs such as NERC and EH&S compliance, outage management, project management, asset integrity, and financial management.
  • Lead safety initiatives and foster a sustainable safety culture through active participation in safety meetings, job briefs, audits, training, and incident investigations
  • Maintain compliance in environmental, health, safety, NERC, security, fire protection, water chemistry, contractor compliance, grounds maintenance, and inventory/procurement
  • Coordinate with external engineering firms and equipment vendors to facilitate field changes and resolve technical issues.
  • Manage capital improvement projects including RFQ preparation, bid evaluation, project management, and implementation.
  • Develop and execute procedures for document control, maintaining site drawings, and documentation.
  • Conduct root cause analyses for equipment failures, recommend recovery plans, and implement preventive measures.
  • Administer contracts and work scopes for external contractors to optimize plant and contractor personnel efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives including CMMS and procedural writing and reviews.
  • Provide backup operational support in the absence of the Plant or O&M Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Proficiency in power plant operations, safety, and compliance programs (OSHA, EPA, NERC).
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge with piping and instrument schematics and process controls.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to present technical information effectively.
  • Familiarity with plant data historian, trending and performance monitoring tools.
  • Working knowledge with Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Occasional travel and work at other sites may be required.
  • Availability for extended hours, varied shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call status as needed.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working at heights.
  • Use of PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, masks, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
  • Visual and auditory abilities to monitor plant operations and respond to alarms and instructions.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline preferred or 5 years of operations and/or maintenance experience in power generation.
  • Moderate working knowledge of Maximo is advantageous.
  • CEMS and DAHS software experience is desired
