Pierce County Project Access is Hiring a Patient Care Associate Near Tacoma, WA

Organizational Overview

Pierce County Project Access (PCPA) is a non-profit organization with a mission to improve the health of individuals, families, and communities by ensuring pathways to health services for Pierce County residents in need. Strong partnerships with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, MultiCare Health System, Tacoma/Pierce County Health Department, Community Health Care, and the Pierce County Medical Society enable the organization to fulfill its mission of serving Pierce County.

Position Summary

This position primarily works with clients to screen for eligibility in Premium Assistance – a program where Project Access pays monthly premiums – and then enrolls those clients in Washington State Health Plan Finder.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with participating insurance agencies, referral partners, and other community organizations.
  • Administer process for enrolling clients in Premium Assistance program.
  • Lead client intake process for Premium Assistance.
  • Navigate client Health Plan Finder accounts to get them enrolled in health insurance coverage and troubleshoot all account issues.
  • Communicate with referrals and enrollees by answering voicemails, returning phone calls and initiating outreach to ensure all members maintain good standing in the program.
  • Oversee process to ensure that all premiums are paid on time.
  • Represent PCPA at meetings and community events as requested.
  • Ensure Premium Assistance program enrollment is progressing to meet goals.
  • Facilitate training seminars for community partners when necessary.
  • Must understand and maintain strict confidentiality of personal identifiable information (PII) at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills to be Considered for Role

  • Fluent in Spanish.
  • Trained as a Navigator for Washington State Health Benefit Exchange.
  • AA degree, or high school diploma with 3 or more years of experience in related field. BA Degree is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize responsibilities, do advance planning and the ability to multi-task consistently.
  • Proficient with Microsoft tools such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Experience in case management and/or care coordination and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, busy office environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of social and ethnic groups.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing trust and rapport with clients.
  • Experience working with the low-income, uninsured population.
  • Must be personable and passionate in providing exceptional customer service to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with Pierce County medical community.
  • Familiarity with medical and insurance terminology and concepts.
  • Familiarity with databases or electronic medical records a plus.
  • Medical office experience helpful.
  • Demonstrate ability to be a team player.
  • Demonstrate a high level of diplomacy, tact, trust and integrity.
  • Current driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $52,182.00 per year
