GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: The LPN student success coach is a part-time, non-classified staff, non-benefits eligible position at 18 hours per week. The primary purpose of the LPN Student Success Coach is to achieve high outcomes in academic performance, licensure pass rates, and student satisfaction with courses, faculty, and program. The student success coach engages students in early identification, intervention, remediation, and other evidence-based coaching strategies for improved academic success. This position aids students in the use of structured resources and processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support students in nursing coursework and clinical skill development by mentoring and tutoring students.
- Visit class in person to actively engage and build relationships with students and stay abreast of course information.
- Reinforce clinical skill development through coaching support in the lab, as guided by student needs.
- Disseminate reminders to students about course deadlines using a variety of communication tools.
- Engage students and destigmatize help-seeking behavior through active, collaborative, and culturally relevant approaches.
- Model and teach self-advocacy, academic skills, and non-cognitive skills.
- Working with nursing faculty and staff to provide academic assistance and coordinate referrals for additional support
- Complete onboarding and trainings hosted by the institution.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Advise and assist students with class scheduling.
- Help students develop academic success plans, set goals, and track their progress.
- Help students make informed academic decisions based on their career goals.
- Identify barriers to student success and developing action plans to address them.
- Help students identify and use available resources and support services.
- Facilitating student engagement in academic and career planning activities.
- Develop and implement strategies and workshops to support student success.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
- Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing or the equivalent professional experience.
- Hold a current license as a registered professional nurse in the state of West Virginia.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to coach students with varying levels of preparedness for college-level work.
- Ability to use a wide range of interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with others and productively manage conflict and challenges.
- Proficient with and ability to use a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technologies to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing or the equivalent of with professional experience.
- Hold a current license as a registered professional nurse in the state of West Virginia.
