Pima Community College is Hiring a Lab Specialist – WC Art Labs: Ceramics, Sculpture, Printmaking and Metals (Temporary/Part-time) Near Tucson, AZ

The Lab Specialist assists in the oversight of Art Lab operations. Plans, monitors, and prepares the Art Lab equipment and materials for activities, demonstrations, and exercises. Implements safety procedures. Assists in the oversight of inventory of supplies, equipment, and other materials needed for daily operations of the Art Labs. The Lab Specialist is responsible for performing skilled technical work in the operation and maintenance needs of the Arts facilities.

This will be a 9-month position. Typical schedule is 19.5 hours a week, Monday through Friday.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining health and safety regulations and oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste in labs
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of various equipment, instructional media, and other materials used for class exercises and demonstrations
  • Assist in loading, firing and unloading of kilns and in mixing glazes
  • Assist with faculty and students working with printmaking, sculpture and metals equipment
  • Assist with inventory of supplies, equipment and other lab materials
  • Other related duties, as assigned


Job Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree and
  • Two years related lab experience (Visual Arts)

Or

  • Bachelor's Degree in Visual Arts (Fine Arts, Sculpture, Metals, Ceramics or Printmaking)

Or

  • Candidates who possess similar minimum objective qualifications are encouraged to apply and should describe in detail the work experience and education you regard as establishing the equivalency

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Visual Arts (Fine Arts, Sculpture, Metals, Ceramics or Printmaking) Vocational or technical training

  • Assisting with equipment repair and maintenance activities

  • Laboratory techniques
  • Record keeping and inventory maintenance methods

  • Recognizing and solving problems
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, and the public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
