Hiring Range: $20.10 - $23.62 Per Hour
Full Range: $20.10 - $27.14 Per Hour
The Pima County Health Department is seeking a dedicated Community Health Worker III to join our team. In this grant-funded position, you will serve as a senior member of the community health team, utilizing your advanced skills in outreach, education, and advocacy. You will lead and coordinate initiatives aimed at addressing health disparities, supervise and mentor junior community health workers, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to enhance community health outcomes.
As a Community Health Worker III, you will play a pivotal role in program development, community engagement, and fostering partnerships to create sustainable improvements in community health. Your contributions will be essential in driving our mission to promote health equity and well-being throughout Pima County.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership within the community health team, offering guidance and mentorship to junior community health workers;
  • Supports the development and implementation of training programs for team members;
  • Leads and coordinates community engagement initiatives, including workshops, health fairs, and awareness campaigns;
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of community health programs and initiatives;
  • Identifies areas for program improvement and innovation based on community needs and feedback;
  • Works with clients facing complex health and social challenges, providing intensive case management and support;
  • Advocates for systemic changes and policy improvements that positively impact community health outcomes;
  • Leads quality improvement initiatives within the community health team, identifying opportunities for enhancement;
  • Implements strategies to ensure the delivery of high-quality and culturally competent services;
  • Stays informed about emerging public health trends, evidence-based practices, and community resources.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years of experience in community work, education, or working as a community health worker (CHW) or representative (CHR) AND certified as a CHW or CHR from an accredited program. Certification must be provided at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:(Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Experience with community outreach and education.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and disadvantaged communities.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.
Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
