Position Title: Safety & Security Technologist Department: Safety & Security Team Reports To: Director of Human Resources/School Safety & Security Coordinator Status: Full-time; 12 month; PRESPA Bargaining Unit / Non-Exempt Salary Range: Starting wage of $22.00-$26.00/hour, based on qualifications and experience; excellent healthcare benefits package and eligibility for state-sponsored retirement program (PSERS)
SUMMARY:
This position(s) is responsible for supporting district-wide school safety and security operations, primarily through the utilization and optimization of technology resources including but not limited to video surveillance and emergency management system software. The safety & security technologist will offer technical assistance in support of the district's emergency operations plan (EOP), and will provide periodic training to administratros and other district staff related to best practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Utilize and optimize the setup of the district's video surveillance systems to assist the safety and security team in monitoring the interior and exterior of all district facilities.
  • Alert appropriate team members and administrators when threats are identified in order to effectively prevent and respond to incidents.
  • Pull and archive video surveillance footage to assist administration in gathering evidence for investigatory purposes.
  • Make recommendations for placement and function of video surveillance systems to further enhance the efficacy of the video surveillance system.
  • Audit and promote account hygiene and maintenance for employee and contractor access to the district emergency management system software (e.g. adding new hires, removing separated employees, updating locations as necessary, etc.).
  • Assist in troubleshooting end-user challenges utilizing the emergency management system software in both a proactive and reactive manner .
  • Add, manage and maintain door access control systems, including configuring and monitoring access permissions for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Provide recommendations for enhancing the security and efficiency of door access control systems.
  • Audit access control logs and report any anomalies or unauthorized access attempts to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting of door access hardware to ensure optimal functionality and security.
  • Develop and maintain a library of reference documents that support staff and contractors in utilizing the emergency management system software.
  • Track inventory of two-way radios (i.e. walkie-talkies) district-wide.
  • Assist in troubleshooting end-user challenges utilizing two-way radios in both a proactive and reactive manner.
  • Assist in the review and analysis of bus audio/video and share findings with appropriate administrator(s).
  • Direct traffic to ensure a safe and orderly morning student arrival at the Pine-Richland High School campus (training will be provided)
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources/School Safety & Security Coordinator

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; Bachelors' degree preferred. Law enforcement, security services, and or information technology experience preferred. Current clearances as required by Board Policy and Pennsylvania School Code. Ability to judge when to act independently and when to refer situations to supervisor and/or law enforcement authorities.

Respect and maintain the privacy of staff and students. Keep records and personal communications secure and confidential. Be knowledgeable of and comply strictly with all laws and legal requirements regarding confidentiality of student and personnel records.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to write both routine and complex reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with employees, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, school district staff and Board of Education.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Proficient with Google suite of programs and applications. Proficiency or ability to obtain proficiency with use, programming and operation of District video surveillance, door entry, alarm/monitoring and other related security systems and related software.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to apply ratio, percent, probability and estimation concepts. Possess an understanding of, and the ability to interpret for others, statistical information.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to potentially technical situations. Ability to establish priority ordering of tasks necessary to complete a project and convey these understandings and priorities to others. Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in stressful situations.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to develop effective and cooperative working relationships with co-workers, students, school staff and the school community, including those from diverse backgrounds. Ability to perform duties with awareness of and in compliance with all district and department rules and procedures, Board of Education policies, and applicable laws and accounting standards.

The employee may occasionally lift up to 40 lbs and or push/pull up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision. The employee needs to be able to tell where a sound is coming from and hear in a noisy environment. Employee will be required to periodically visit school building sites and maintenance facilities for meetings, inspections and reviews. Employee will be required to travel to and respond to security issues where and when they occur. Employee may be required to participate in training for and be able to implement de-escalation techniques.
