The Patient Financial Counselor is an ideal opportunity for those seeking to be an integral part of a fertility patient’s journey toward becoming a parent. The Patient Financial Counselor position at Pinnacle will allow you to engage with the patient throughout their journey while working closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide excellent patient care.
We are seeking a Patient Financial Counselor to join our dedicated team at IVF1 in Naperville, IL. This is a full-time position, fully onsite, working Monday-Friday 8:30am -5:00pm.Responsibilities
  • Has a high level of knowledge and can effectively explain insurance benefits, coverage limitations, authorization requirements, and billing/contracts, Financial Programs (Lending Club, Emborrow and third-party loan options), and pricing
  • Follows financial coordinator workflow to identify and prioritize communication with assigned patients, providing financial support, training, and guidance
  • Calculates patient estimated charges; documents estimated patient financial liability (insurance limits and co-payment responsibilities); consults with patients regarding IHR fees and their financial obligations; provides payment options for the patients; and collection of patient’s financial responsibility when required prior to arrival for services
  • Secures patient signatures for required forms
  • Reviews Financial Schedule daily to determine if assigned patients have their insurance matters in order (e.g., referrals, pre-certifications, and pre-determinations) and “Green Light” the patient’s account when the patient is cleared to start service
  • Document accounts appropriately (nAble etc…)
  • Conducts ongoing reviews of accounts receivable with patient responsibility for services. Enters financial notes in the billing system after all receivables follow-up activities, so that there is a clear history of actions taken on collecting aged receivables in the account notes
  • Responsible for reviewing, interpreting and explaining patient accounts when patients present account conflicts
  • Participates in the implementation of procedures to improve the quality and quantity of
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information and account status.
  • Communicate with other departments concerning patient account balances and status updates.
  • Notifies necessary members of the billing team outcomes via verbal and written communications.
  • Assists in periodic reviews of the Financial Counselor’s protocols to ensure efficiency, accuracy and time-management are standards are being followed correctly and are currently relevant to the position.
  • Assist with the training of new personnel in Financial Services related matters, including Virtual Assistants (VAs)
  • Assists with a variety of special projects
  • Solves complex billing issues for staff and with insurance carriers
  • Works with all third-party payers to establish an information highway for billing and follow-up on claims
  • Works closely with Medical Records issues that prevent claims from final billing (i.e. HCPCS codes, ICD10 codes, Procedure Codes, and Medical Record Request Delays).
  • Implements, enforces, and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives
  • Reviews work and/or spot checks work for accuracy
  • Maintains required records, reports, and files for the area of responsibility
  • Compiles data, information, and/or statistical reports as required or requested by the designated department
  • Monitor insurance notifications or insurance coverages
  • Set up arrangements / monthly installment plans for patients to pay off balances within the guidelines of IHR collection policy and to be approved by management.
  • Receive, research, and request patient and/or insurance refunds.
  • Assist with checking benefits and obtaining pre-certifications.
  • Function as an official liaison between outside billing services, IHR, and patients
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Proven experience as a Financial Counselor in the medical field or a similar role.
  • Knowledge of medical billing, coding, insurance processes, and reimbursement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to patients in a clear and empathetic manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with utmost professionalism.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and tools.
  • Understanding of healthcare compliance and patient privacy regulations (HIPAA).
Compensation & Benefit$20.00 - $26.00 per hour
The compensation range for this position is between $20.00 - $26.00 per hour. Final compensation offers will be determined based on factors such as years of experience, skills, and qualifications. In addition to competitive compensation, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare, dental, life, and vision insurance.
