Client:

Our client is a sizeable, family office-backed Venture Capital firm based in NYC. They partner with founders at all stages of company formation, from inception through maturity. Their focus is on Seed through Series C.

Opportunity:

The Principal will collaborate closely with the firm’s founding and managing partner to oversee all aspects of research and diligence for direct investments, co-investments, and opportunistic fund investments.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the firm’s Managing Partner across all aspects of the investment process for new opportunities
• Day-to-day deal manager, quarterbacking all areas of diligence from inception through to IC
• Conduct primary and secondary market research and identify trends of strategic relevance
• Manage pipeline for new investment opportunities including sourcing and initial screening.
• Lead diligence calls with Management Teams
• Market mapping, industry research, financial modeling & valuation
• Conduct expert calls to diligence specific industries
• Prepare investment memo presentation and updates for the Investment Committee, leadership, and other key stakeholders
• Partner alongside junior investment team to diligence opportunities and develop their investment acumen and skillset
• Work with portfolio companies to track financial performance, gather investor updates, and provide value through connections, strategic advice, etc.
• Support the fund’s operational processes via financial analysis, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration with Sage’s VP of Operations & Finance
• Help build the firm’s network of founders, experts, and key industry leaders

Qualifications:

• 6-8 years of experience (investment banking, consulting, investing) with 3-5 years of direct Venture Capital experience
• A bachelor’s degree required, MBA a plus
• Generalist industry experience with tech, B2B2C in healthtech, fintech, or climate tech a plus
• Ability to lead end to end deal cycle including sourcing, diligence, negotiations, investment memo creation, and IC presentation)
• Passionate about people and entrepreneurship
• Outstanding communication skills with an ability to build rapport quickly while clearly conveying ideas via written or spoken communication
• Highly proficient in modeling, market-sizing, and presenting data-driven, quantitative analyses
• Detail-oriented, analytical, proactive, and self-motivated; ability to guide investment team throughout deal process and produce board-level presentations and succinct investment memos
• Excitement for teaching and mentoring junior investors
• High degree of comfort working in a flexible, entrepreneurial environment with a small team; ability to take initiative and work independently to drive various projects
• Familiarity with Notion, Airtable, Miro, and have the ability to optimize the latest SaaS productivity products
