Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School is Hiring a DEAN OF STUDENTS Near South Hadley, MA

PVPA is a regional charter public school providing students in grades 7-12 an intensive exposureto the performing arts within the context of an excellent college preparatory curriculum. Weseek to connect the creative process with critical thinking to inspire a love of learning. As acharter public school, the work we do informs educational policy at local, state and nationallevels.SummaryThe Dean of Student handles matters of discipline, supervises corridors and grounds andmonitors student attendance. The dean also conducts conferences with students and parents,maintains accurate records of discipline and collaborates with the restorative practicecoordinator to engage the community in the pursuit of student achievement and a positiveschool culture.Responsibilities:School Wide1. Manage and enforce school behavioral expectations according to PVPA’s code ofconduct2. Monitor the enforcement of the student code of conduct including but not limited toattendance and behavior.3. Notify parents/guardians of attendance and behavior related issues.4. Work with students, families and members of the Wellness Team to improveattendance issues.5. Manage the PVPA Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan and its updates to assurecompliance with state regulations including annual fall training for PVPA faculty andstaff.6. Manage and compile a quarterly report to the Board of Trustees on bullying complaints,incidents, trends, etc. as detailed in the PVPA Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan.7. Collaborate with the restorative practice coordinator to implement a school-widebehavior management system with meaningful incentives and re- direction strategies8. Work closely with the restorative practice coordinator to develop a positive schoolculture of high expectations and respect9. Confer with students, parents, and teachers regarding student related policies and/orappropriate consequences10. Manage suspension and expulsion hearings in accordance with state law11. Assist in the planning, developing, and implementation of student behavior plans forhigh-risk students.12. Compile, analyze, and share student discipline data regularly, and use that data to makedecisions in collaboration with the Administrative Team; create new systems andstructures to proactively address school’s areas of need11. Compile all required discipline reports to the Department of Elementary and SecondaryEducation12. Mange reports of abuse and neglect with the Department of Children and Families13. Manage investigations for reports of bullying and harassment14. Serve as the school’s Title IX investigatorStaff Support1. Collaborate with the restorative practice coordinator and school counselors to createand maintain research-based behavioral interventions and train faculty and staff inthose interventions2. Assist staff with the creation and alignment of classroom student behavioralexpectations and classroom management plans3. Serve as a resource to staff regarding student management issues4. Provide formal and informal feedback on observations and classroom management bestpracticesFamily and Community Engagement1. Maintain regular communication with staff and families regarding student behavior2. Build effective relationships with teachers, families, and the community to improveschool culture3. Encourage parental involvement in the pursuit of student achievement and a positiveschool culture
