Pitt County Schools is Hiring a Behavior Support Teacher @ Hope Middle School Near Greenville, NC

The administration of Hope Middle School and Chicod School are seeking a Behavior Support Teacher to support students who have behvaior goals.
NATURE OF WORK
  • BSTs are responsible for assisting in the development and follow-up of behavior goals; Make a Plan (MAP) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for identified students with significant behavioral challenges, Provides direct services for students in middle and high schools.
Training And Experience
  • Minimal training Bachelor of Arts Degree in special education.
  • Applicant should have experiences in working with students with disabilities related to mental health and behavioral disorders in public school or mental health clinical settings.
Responsibilities
  • High School BSTs will remain in assigned buildings (school based employees). Middle school BSTs will be assigned multiple buildings (district based employees).
  • BSTs are responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and follow-up of behavior goals, Make a Plan (MAP) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for identified students with significant behavioral challenges.
  • Coordinate with Exceptional Children’s (EC) record Case Manager and School Psychologist in reviewing data for researched based intervention strategies.
  • Provide behavioral support for identified students with significant behavioral challenges.
  • Provide support to school level teaching personnel in adapting within the school environment.
  • Provide support to school staff as needed for student to access the general curriculum and show progress on IEP goals and objectives.
  • Work with EC school staff, administration and IEP teams to ensure proper implementation of IDEA.
  • Maintain document of interventions, track discipline issues, and monitor goal progress (this includes change of placements and suspensions- both in and out of school).
  • Collaborate with EC teachers and behavior support assistant(s), if applicable, in providing students with research based interventions that can used in the school setting to assist students. Maintain documentation.
  • When applicable, provide Behavior Support Assistant(s) (BSA) with daily schedules for identified students with significant behavioral challenges. This includes social skills activities/lessons for BSA to implement.
  • Ensure that the students receive FAPE while placed in alternative educational settings when change of placement has occurred.
  • As warranted, participation in “Team of Three” school meeting related to determination of change of placement (as new discipline procedures are implemented).
  • Be active participants in IEP team meetings (progress monitoring data, review of MAP and/or BIP and/or behavioral goals).
  • Be active participants in manifestation determination review meetings or behavior related meetings.
  • Depending on needs, behavior support teacher may be needed to support other specialists at other schools in serving as LEA at manifestation determination/behavior related meetings, providing FAPE, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Exceptional Children’s Program Director and/or Program Coordinators.
