POSITION TITLE
Adjunct Teacher, Digital Media, 2024-25
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Visual Arts program at Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 is seeking a digital media adjunct to begin in the 2024-2025 school year to work 15 hours a week at a competitive hourly rate with no benefits with students ranging in ages from 11 to 18 as well as to collaborate with the faculty on department wide projects and student showcases. The ideal candidate will have an MFA in Digital Media or Media Arts, possess a strong educational background, and demonstrate a passion for teaching. They will inspire students from diverse backgrounds and foster a positive attitude towards visual arts for all. Interested applicants should send a letter of interest, CV, and teaching philosophy. Upon selected for an interview, the applicant will be asked to submit: 10-12 photographs of images of recent artwork, sample curricula, and images of students' artwork.
Responsibilities:
o Teaching digital media arts to middle school students
o Collaborating with faculty on department-wide projects and student showcases
o Maintaining and organizing digital media equipment and supplies
o Assisting students with the creation of digital media portfolio work
o Providing regular communication with students, parents, and other CAPA Visual Arts staff

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Organizing and maintaining digital media equipment and supplies
2. Organizing and cleaning the studio at the beginning and end of the year.
3. Collaboration with faculty on departmental projects and exhibitions
4. Excellent writing skills
5. Assisting students with the creation of portfolio work and artist statements
6. Assisting students with the creation of digital artwork, digital photography, animation, and 3-D modelling
7. Assisting with student exhibitions
8. Teaching students to think critically through creative problem solving, experimentation, and inventiveness.
9. Regular communication with students, parents and other CAPA Visual Arts staff to share artistic progress, encourage positive behavior, and resolve behavioral and artistic issues.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
• Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Experience in digital media arts and teaching in diverse settings
- Expert knowledge of computer programs, especially the Adobe Creative Suite and 3D modeling programs such as Tinkercad
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of art history and contemporary social, artistic, and cultural issues
- Collaborative and creative team player, capable of sharing studio, equipment, and workspace with the afternoon high school digital media instructor
- Collaborative work with community arts organizations
- Enthusiastic about the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district.
- Value, demonstrate, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
