Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The position of teacher is directly supervised by the School Principal and is responsible for effectively educating and supporting students by ensuring they are learning academically, developing strong character, and gaining skills that prepare them for college and career. The teacher is responsible for planning lessons that target specific skills, managing classroom behavior, and engaging students in lessons. The position of teacher cultivates student's interest in education and incorporates culturally responsive pedagogy into their classroom.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Provide a safe, equitable, and inclusive school environment for all students.
2. Plan, develop, and submit culturally responsive lessons plans that facilitate active learning for students.
3. Implement rigorous and culturally relevant curriculum and content to students.
4. Utilize technology to support and differentiate instruction.
5. Manage student behavior within the classroom and throughout the school by establishing and enforcing guidelines and procedures.
6. Develop and administer formal and informal student assessments to evaluate students' progress.
7. Ensure students are demonstrating knowledge and skills by utilizing data to progress monitor students and adjust teaching strategies.
8. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying learning styles, needs and interests.
9. Work collaboratively with teachers, central office staff, and school administrators to improve instructional practice.
10. Encourage involvement from and collaborate with parents, staff, and community stakeholders to enhance student's skills and abilities.
11. Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments.
12. Maintain accurate and complete records of student attendance, grades, and progress in a timely and confidential manner.
13. Supervise students during fire and safety drills.
14. Follow school procedures pertaining to duty assignments such as lunch, hall, recess, and homeroom.
15. Actively participate in team, faculty and parent meetings, workshops, in-service professional development, and other responsibilities as they arise.
16. Collaborate with and provide direction to paraprofessionals.
17. Monitor and attend extra-curricular events and social activities.
18. Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with building and central office staff.
19. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the school's/department's goals and objectives and the District's mission and Superintendent's Priority Goals.
EDUCATION REQUIRED (MINIMUM)
Bachelor's degree in education
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIRED
Pennsylvania Department of Education Instructional Certification in required subject area.

10. A Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint (Schoology, ESchools plus preferred)
11. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
12. Ability to exercise a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, poise, tact and diplomacy to accomplish objectives.
13. Enthusiastic about the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district.
14. Ability to work collaboratively as a team player, under pressure with multiple competing deadlines, and with culturally, educationally, and racially diverse internal and external customers.

This job posting is not a component of the School-Based Professional Internal Transfer Season. Current Pittsburgh Public School employees who are school-based professionals (teachers, librarian, counselors, social workers, etc.) are not eligible to apply to this position.
