Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, Inc. is Hiring a Director of Advanced Practice Near Denver, CO

Position: Director of Advanced Practice 

Responsible to: Chief Medical Officer

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm

Remote: 75%, Onsite: 25% 

Position Salary Range: $141,261.31 - $189,843.39/ year

Starting Pay Although our full pay range is included above, the budgeted hiring range for this position is $141,261.31- $165,552.35/ year

Snapshot: Much of your work is done in collaboration with others either individually, in small groups, or in large group settings. You will form a dyad with the Director of Health Center Operations to develop and implement a strategic plan for our health care operation in collaboration with the Director of Clinical Quality and Risk Management. You will also lead a team of Advanced Practice Managers in the oversight of all advanced practice clinicians at the affiliate. As a clinician leader, you will see a panel of patients in one or more health centers, with 20% of your time being spent in direct patient care. There will also be times when you work solo to collect and analyze data, write reports and briefs, and prepare for presentations to clinicians, health center staff, and executive leadership.

You will travel frequently to be onsite across all regions (CO, NM, NV, WY) as needed to provide direct patient care, assess clinical practice, build relationships, and provide engaged leadership to the healthcare delivery team

  • Qualifications:
  • ​Must have and maintain an active state license as an NP or CNM as required in your region, including prescriptive authority. Colorado APNs must hold full prescriptive authority. 
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in sexual and reproductive health care or equivalent.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in a leadership role supervising clinical staff or equivalent.
  • ​Must have, or be willing to obtain, DEA certification. 
  • ​Must be board-certified in a relevant specialty. 
  • ​You must not have any restrictions on your ability to be credentialed with Medicaid or other payors. 
  • ​Must have reliable transportation. 
  • ​​Must be BLS certified.​ 

Primary Areas of Responsibility/Essential Functions:

You will work in a dyad partnership with the Director of Health Center Operations and with other clinical leaders including the CQRM Director and Medical Director to align the work and ensure the success of operational and clinical strategic goals.

Clinical and Strategic Leadership:

In collaboration with the Director of Health Center Operations, you will participate in strategic planning for growth and stability while ensuring that key performance indicators are met. You will collaborate closely with the clinical leadership to set the tone for clinical practice through the development and implementation of initiatives driving service expansion, continuous quality improvement, risk mitigation, and ongoing professional development of the clinician workforce.

  • Strategic and Operational Leadership: You will provide leadership to the clinical program, drive the design and implementation of clinical initiatives and coordinate with operations on clinical impacts of operational initiatives. Establishes PPRM as a leading health care provider by building and maintaining a talented, dedicated and committed clinical team with the depth and skills that enable PPRM to effectively serve the growing needs of our regional communities
  • Promote a collaborative and just culture centered on evidence-based practice and advocacy while promoting the work and impact of clinical leadership within the affiliate.
  • Ensure the affiliate is high functioning and meeting or exceeding performance benchmarks and industry and PPFA-specific best practices.
  • Ensure cross-center standardization, including workflows, policies & procedures, and new initiative implementations.
  •  Ensure clinical workflows support top of scope activity across the various clinical roles and aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Monitor clinical performance in collaboration with the Director of Clinical Quality and Risk Management and jointly develop and implement remediation plans related to clinical practice, access, and operations at the affiliate level.
  • Ensure compliance with Planned Parenthood clinical standards and quality of medical care by identifying areas of improvement, communicating perceived needs to appropriate persons, and overseeing the development of improvement plans.

Clinical Leadership: You will build strong, trusting relationships with both direct reports and your entire management line. You inspire and motivate your team to achieve significant results and give people access to the learning, tools and growth they need to reach them. You model our values and empower your team to perform: As part of this area of responsibility, you will work in close partnership with the Director of Health Center Operations and the clinical leadership line to oversee clinical care.

  • You will recruit, hire, mentor and supervise high-performing Regional Advanced Practice Managers and support them in their leadership of the advanced practice clinicians and other patient-care staff. In support of this work, you will be responsible for the performance management of the team and ensure their ongoing professional development
  • Provide strategic oversight of recruitment, onboarding, coaching, evaluation, development, and accountability of clinical employees and their performance
  •  Collaborate with the Medical Director and other members of the clinical leadership team to develop practice standards and communicate with the Clinical Training Director to align clinical training learning objectives with same.
  •  Oversee opportunities for professional development, and continuing education for our clinician workforce that aligns with the organization’s mission and strategic goals, and support advancement on our clinical ladder when appropriate.
  • Oversee the required annual clinical performance reviews for non-physician licensed staff.
  • Ensure the quality, accuracy, and accessibility of the affiliate's clinical consultation service in collaboration with other clinical leaders.
  • Support the Medical Director throughout the APC privileging process
  • Collaborate with CQRM to promote high quality clinical care, proactively mitigate clinical risk and respond to practice or policy deviations and adverse events.

Operations: In partnership with the Director of Health Center Operations, you will support operational goals and initiatives through the clinical lens, identifying clinical opportunities and impacts and coordinating the direction of the work to meet strategic goals.

  • Support the pro-active management of patient access and compliance to scheduling and template management policies.
  • Partner with Business Services to ensure clinical documentation supports billing and coding compliance.

Patient Care: To maintain the highest degree of clinical competence and foster our In This Together

values among clinician leaders, health center teams, and individual contributors, the Director of Advanced Practice will provide direct patient care in one or more health centers and/or the virtual care center. In compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, and protocols (including the PPRM Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&G’s), you will provide direct patient care, including abortion services, with a focus on providing culturally competent, trauma-informed care, increasing access to reproductive health care, meet key performance indicators and quality metrics, while leading the health care team.

  • Obtain a complete health history, perform physical assessment/examination, education, counseling, evaluation, and management with special emphasis on reproductive health, to include provision of abortion care and management of abortion and gender-affirming care, for all patients inclusive of all genders and gender identities, including patients assigned male at birth. 
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies as indicated, including limited microscopy, and provide appropriate treatment and follow-up as indicated. 
  • Perform procedures such as IUD insertion and removal. 
  • Provide screening, testing, diagnosis, and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, cancers of the reproductive organs, and other testing/diagnosis/management as indicated. 

Quality Improvement and Risk Management: You will support clinical quality and risk management work through an integrated approach at the enterprise level in close collaboration with other members of clinical and compliance leadership. 

  • Ensures the clinical teams’ partnership and participation in risk mitigation through the reporting of errors, adverse events, near misses and good catches.
  • Partners with the CQRM team to identify trends in clinician performance reviews, patient surveys, and practice audits for regional or organizational quality improvement or risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Collaborates with CQRM for the design and implementation of quality initiatives and risk mitigation activities and ensures accountability through performance management with the clinician workforce.
  • Supports compliance by clinicians and health center staff with PPFA accreditation standards, the Medical Standards and Guidelines, Policy Procedure and Guidelines, and regulatory standards including those of OSHA, CLIA, the DEA, state and local health departments, and the Boards of Pharmacy, Medicine, and Nursing in the affiliate states.
  • Abortion Care: We all work in abortion care, whether it is referrals, information, education, counseling, performing, scheduling, etc. In this role, you will be working with clinicians to ensure they have the appropriate licensing and with payers so that we are able to provide patient service including abortion care.
