Job Summary

The Tool Room Manager we seek must be able to effectively manage all tool room personnel by providing daily work schedules, direction, evaluations, and maintain a safe work environment. In addition, the candidate must manage the activities of our outside tool support services and coordinate tool repairs, as required. Implement and manage continuous improvement, 5S, and modern manufacturing principles by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices, and processes.

Essential Job Functions

• Maintains safe work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
• Overseeing and evaluating the daily operation of the Tooling Department.
• Identifies, documents, and implements opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Reviews and approves mold and component drawings and documentation.
• Prioritize department activities to achieve company goals, objectives, plans, and policies.
• Interfaces with all appropriate departments/staff in progress updates, problem analysis, and corrective action recommendations.
• Knowledge of engineering and machining principles as it pertains to tool and die support.
• Interface with Operations and Supply Chain on prioritizing tooling and mold repair scheduling.
• Interviews and selects candidates for various tooling department positions.
• Performs all performance reviews and disciplinary action regarding tool room personnel.
• Oversee component inventory for the Tool Room.
• Participate in the creation of all SOPs and work instructions related to the department.
• Maintain departmental records, and ensures that training and training records are updated and that ISO procedures are followed.
• Implement and oversee training and development of Tool Room personnel.
• Prepares all required reports, paperwork, and correspondence.
• Ensures compliance with all safety rules are followed.
• Equipment maintenance experience a plus
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Journeyman Moldmaker or Toolmaker

Experience:

• 5 to 10 years experience managing in a plastic molding environment.
• Basic business acumen
• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings for molded components
• Understanding of Geometric Dimensions and Tolerances
• Computer literate – Must be able to develop, analyze and present data developed from the use of the computer including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Safety and Quality focused Preferred Qualifications
• Strong leadership capabilities

NOTES:

• 160 machines ranging from 5 Ton to 165 ton. All precision molding with tooling tolerances as low as less than .001.
• 16 direct reports when open toolmaker slots are filled
• HUGE increase in volume - 400% growth over last 2 years
• Personality fit is huge. Must be pro manager.
• Lathes, grinders, mills, EDM’s, CNC’s. Pretty good sized tool shop.
• Tool shop has very good equipment, is well lit and “clean”, but cluttered. Would like to see improvement in that area.
• ISO 13485, FDA, and/or Clean Room Experience Preferred
