Baxter plans to spin off our ~$5B Kidney Care segment into an independent, publicly traded company. The new standalone entity will leverage our nearly 70-year legacy in acute therapies and home and in-center dialysis to provide best-in-class care to the people we serve. This position reports to the Global Associate Director of Analytical Chemistry and Stability (ACS) in Kidney Care R&D, and will establish Analytical Chemistry competencies, including Elemental Impurities, in the vicinity of Plymouth, MN. Analytica Chemistry Manager will lead the US contingent of the Global Analytical Chemistry team.

This leader manages a diverse team of scientists that specialize in analytical chemistry as applied to drug products and medical devices to support products across all stages of the product life cycle including Exploratory, New Product Development, Sustaining Products, and manufacturing support as needed. These activities ensure that products are safe, pure, and well-characterized during development, at the time of manufacture, and over their entire shelf life. The Kidney Care portfolio consists of Chronic Renal Care solutions (~10 product families), Acute Therapy solutions (~5 product families), electromechanical devices (7 platforms) and disposables and filters (~100 product families).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the vision and implement the strategic plan for Analytical Chemistry in Kidney Care R&D. Communicate the strategic plan and inspire the local Analytical Chemistry team to action consistent with that vision. Set high standards and goals and remove barriers to excellence.
  • Lead talent selection, development, retention efforts, establishing clear criteria for measuring team and individual success. Provide feedback, recognition, and opportunities for cross-training. Coach and motivate team members, ensuring their developing expertise aligns both with their career interests and with business needs. Set high standards and goals and remove barriers to excellence.
  • Understand and effectively communicate how projects fit into the organization’s strategies. Ensure that team objectives align with key business strategic programs.
  • Develop project schedules and budgets, optimize the use of financial resources, and balance in-house and outsourced resources.
  • Review and implement best practices and team processes to enhance operational efficiency, resolve issues, improve project timelines, and make timely, risk-based decisions. Solicit regular input from customers and take appropriate action.
  • Be accountable for successfully meeting agreed upon milestones. Collaborate with other functional managers and project managers to ensure project priorities and project schedules are met.
  • Provide leadership by guiding in terms of prioritization, problem resolution, process clarification, referrals to appropriate experts, etc.
  • Generate innovative and expeditious solutions to complex problems by leveraging multiple disciplines and technical principles. Develop innovative processes and methods through fusion of expertise. 
  • Accountable for laboratory management including best practices, efficient operations, and compliance with GxP and EHS.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant Quality System Regulations and other regulatory requirements to ensure compliance in all research, data collection and reporting activities.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience, Master’s degree with 5-7 years of experience, or Ph.D. with 2-4 years of experience.
  • Knowledgeable in analytical chemistry, in particular as applied in the pharmaceutical industry and can critically review analytical plans, assessments, investigations, transfers, and validations.
  • Must demonstrate effective supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Able to organize and communicate complex information to various audiences including senior management.
  • Possesses strong time management skills.
  • Able to make decisions with limited information.
  • Capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience, as well as with project management tools.
  • Works well in a team environment and effectively leads scientists working in cross-functional teams.
  • Possesses an agile mindset.
  • Must understand ICH, FDA, relevant cGxPs, ISO, and quality systems associated with pharmaceutical development.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $104,000 to $143,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
