Electrical Estimator

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Salary Range: $166,400 - $197,600 annually

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

KKCS is seeking an Electrical Estimator for Transit - Division 20 projects in Los Angeles Metropolitan area. The position is full-time and onsite Monday - Friday.

Key Job Duties

  • Estimate costs to propose and analyze different alternatives for development phases of projects.
  • Prepare and draft cost estimates and analysis for product manufacturing, construction projects, or services to aid management in bidding/engineering on or determining price of materials, labor or service.
  • Perform quantity take-off and cost estimating for the most part in civil engineering, electrical engineering, construction, and other disciplines under the supervision of senior engineers.
  • Prepares independent cost estimates for evaluating and awarding construction contracts and for negotiating the settlement of construction contract change modifications and potential claims.
  • Reviews estimates prepared by consultants and contractors.
  • Assists in constructability reviews.
  • Supports negotiations for settling contract change modifications.
  • Develop project budget and cash flow/forecast plans with functional department input in coordination with Project Manager.
  • Document, monitor and communicate project cost milestones and risks with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Participate in project status meetings, collect progress data and revise project plan as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain records of estimated and actual costs.
  • Develop, maintain, and control project schedule plans using appropriate software; SAP Project System, SAP Work Management System, Oracle Unifier and Primavera P6.
  • Verify that project cost and schedule milestones were/were not attained and provide input to identify future process or business improvements and work with responsible parties to implement.
  • Maintain scope change, contingency release, change order, and journal entry logs.
  • Document change order requests, project status, key issues, risks and resolution, priority changes and approvals.
  • Provide Project Manager with monthly report of project costs and/or schedule information, including cost variance analysis according to an agreed upon level of detail and prioritization.
  • Prepare various monthly and weekly project management reports and report performance reports to management group including PER (Project Executive Reports) for high visibility projects by utilizing SAP cost reporting tools.
  • Validate weekly and monthly cost estimate data sets.
  • Travel required to other unanticipated job sites throughout the State of CA

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Educational Background

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

• Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), LEED AP, PMP) are highly desirable.

Experience

• A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in electrical estimating, preferably within the transit or infrastructure sectors.

• Proven experience with large-scale construction projects and managing complex estimates.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in cost estimating software such as Bluebeam, Accubid, and CostX.

• Advanced knowledge of SAP Project System, SAP Work Management System, Oracle Unifier, and Primavera P6.

• Strong understanding of electrical systems, codes, and standards.

• Ability to perform quantity take-offs and develop detailed cost estimates.

• Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

Analytical Skills

• Strong analytical skills to evaluate and analyze different alternatives for project development phases.

• Ability to prepare and draft comprehensive cost estimates and analysis.

• Capable of performing cost variance analysis and risk assessment.

Project Management Skills

• Ability to develop, maintain, and control project schedules.

• Experience in project cost control and schedule management.

• Proficient in preparing project management reports and performance reports.

• Knowledge of constructability reviews and contract negotiation.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to document and communicate project milestones and risks.

• Ability to participate effectively in project status meetings and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

• Strong negotiation skills to support contract change modifications and settlements.

Organizational Skills

• Strong organizational skills to maintain records of estimated and actual costs.

• Ability to document change order requests, project status, key issues, and resolution.

Other Skills

• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Flexibility to travel to various job sites throughout the State of California.
