Polk State College is Hiring a Human resource specialist Near Winter, FL

This position performs moderately routine, diverse work in the complex Recruiting area of Human Resources. General policies can be applied to a majority of work situations;

however, decision-making is required under limited supervision. The position requires a high level of interpersonal skills to deal with multi-faceted recruiting situations.

Essential Functions / Duties :

  • Manages the lifecycle of screening committees by working with Hiring Managers to establish committee and ensuring that the committee is properly moving through the process in a timely manner.
  • Administrator for the online applicant tracking program (NEOED) responsible for implementation, training, and troubleshooting.
  • Contacts candidates, schedules interview appointments, and organizes virtual (Zoom / Teams) or in-person meetings with assistance of Recruiting Team.
  • Develops matrices for committees, sends committees eligible candidate resumes, and runs reports for EEO evaluation.
  • Maintains and monitors position and interview tracking spreadsheet in conjunction with the Recruiting Manager.
  • Oversees the job request process through development of requisitions and managing approvals.
  • Monitors the advertising and postings for job openings. Closes or extends postings as needed.
  • Processes and evaluates applications for completion and eligibility.
  • Responds to inquiries made by employees and public. Exemplifies a consistently high-level HR customer service.
  • Conducts education verifications and reference checks.
  • Represents Polk State College at job fairs and other recruiting related community functions.
  • Updates job descriptions as needed.
  • Assures knowledge of basic principles and basic practices of the Human Resources field remains current.
  • Utilizes confidential employee information and will have access to PHI (Personal Health Information). Will required to be attend related training and follow all applicable HIPAA laws.
  • Assists with front desk operations and on-boarding in the absence of Administrative Assistant II and HR Generalist.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • The ability to work under indirect supervision while following established practices and policies.
  • The ability to make decisions and act proactively when general instructions, established methods, and clearly defined precedents indicate action is to be taken, while referring unusual problems to superiors.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals within and outside of the department.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with special attention to details.
  • Experience with computer and office equipment, specifically Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, fax machine, multi-line phone, and copier.

NEOED / NEOGOV or similar applicant tracking software experience preferred.

  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and deadlines while working independently.
  • Must be able to exercise sound independent judgment and discretion within assigned role to complete assignments.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.

Working Conditions / Additional Information

This position is a full-time on-campus position located at our Winter Haven campus, but will travel to event locations as necessary.

Remote / hybrid options are not available.)

  • Weekend and evening work may be required.
  • Position may be required to work during College closures (such as winter / spring break and inclement weather closures).
  • Reliable transportation is required for travel to campuses and centers.

Salary and Benefits Information

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.

Alternate credential : High School Diploma with 4 years of Human Resources experience.

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Human Resources or related field preferred. SHRM or HRCI certification preferred.

Required Experience

Two years of Human Resources, Recruiting, Employment, and / or Higher Education work experience is required. Recruiting and employment experience preferred.
