Polk State College is Hiring a Program Coordinator, Aerospace/Chief Flight Instructor (Lakeland Airside Center) Near Lakeland, FL

This is a professional technical position reports to a Program Director. This position generally provides program support in all areas related to program administration. Work requires the analysis of complex problems, planning of various interrelated activities, and the coordination of effort of multiple projects or functions, in addition to formulating and maintaining programmatic budgets.

This position will fill the role of FAA Part 141 Chief Flight Instructor. This position ensures the successful delivery of ground and flight instruction for our Part 141 flight training program. The Chief Flight Instructor will be responsible for developing and implementing ground and flight training curriculum, supervising ground instructors, and ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and Part 141 requirements, conduct flight training and evaluations, oversee contactors Part 141 flight training program.

Essential Functions/Duties

  • Supports the establishment of policies and procedures governing selection and progression of students through the program.
  • Assist in assembling and compiling all materials required for accreditation or certification of the program.
  • Supports the dissemination of program information to appropriate college recipients (administrators, advisors, faculty, and program students)
  • Supports the evaluation of the preparation of students for entry into the program and in the administration of the selection process if a limited access program.
  • Assists in coordinating practicums, clinicals, internships, joint ventures and/or work-related educational experiences for program students
  • Supports the acquisition of ancillary demonstration materials from appropriate vendors.
  • Coordinates marketing and recruiting activities for the program including Open Houses, brochures, web page, etc.
  • Supports the Program Director in the daily operations of the program (i.e., addressing student inquiries, appraising Program Director of specific program concerns/issues, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain ground and flight training curriculum in accordance with FAA regulations and Part 141 requirements.
  • Coordinate and conduct ground training sessions for various pilot certificates and ratings, including private, instrument, commercial and CFI.
  • Ensure that ground training materials, including textbooks, presentations, and visual aids, are current and effective.
  • Conduct periodic evaluations of ground and flight training programs and instructors to maintain high standards of quality and effectiveness.
  • Stay updated on changes to FAA regulations, industry best practices, and technological advancements relevant to ground and flight training.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety procedures and emergency protocols for ground and flight training activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of ground and flight training activities, student progress, and instructor qualifications.
Required Skills
  • Strong knowledge of FAA regulations, aviation principles, and aircraft systems.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse groups of students.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience supervising or mentoring others.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Proficiency with computer software and technology commonly used in aviation training environments.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for students and instructors.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities in a dynamic academic setting.
  • Requires ability to work independently on broader assignments with the responsibility for the planning of work.

Salary and Benefits Information

  • This position is a level P14. Please see below for specific salary range.

Required Education and Credentials

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited 4-year college/university.
  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) with instrument (CFII) rating current and 4 year’s experience preferred.
  • Multi-engine Instructor rating preferred.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation or a related field required.
  • Master’s degree in aviation or a related field preferred.Required Experience
    • Three (3) years of professional level, exempt clinical and/or educational experience in the program specialty.
    • Eligibility for all required licensures required (if applicable).
    • Previous experience as a ground and flight instructor in a Part 141 flight training program preferred.
