Job Title: Funeral Home Assistant/ Helper
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Funeral Home Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance and operation of our facilities. The Funeral Home Assistant will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our building.
Responsibilities: FUNERAL SERVICES
1) Driving limousine and funeral coaches to church and cemetery.
2) Assisting with funeral services at church and chapel.
3) Help dressing and placing bodies in caskets.
4) Removing bodies from hospice facilities, Medical Examiners, etc.
5) Running other related errands.
MAINTENANCE
1) Restroom detail: Check daily for: toilet tissue, paper towels, and trash is emptied. Always check to make sure floors and lavatory equipment is sanitized properly. Mop accordingly to the odor and make sure floor is always clean.
2) Tuesday evenings: Make sure trash is placed to the curb between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. for Wednesday morning pick-up.
3) Upon arrival to funeral home look place over for trash that can be picked up.
4) Inspect all the lights around the building; carport, ground, sign, post lights and inside, for burned out bulbs
5) Keep the water fountain in the front lobby cleaned and filled with water.
6) Vacuum and dust once a week, or as often as needed.
7) Make sure cob webs are removed from the ceiling and baseboards twice weekly.
8) Dressing room, embalming room, lounge and any other area that needs to be mop must be done once a week, or as needed.
9) Keep track of all supplies for cleaning and other supplies that are used on a daily basis. Make sure your supply list is placed on Mrs. Harding's desk once you are sure of what you need.
10) Casket room is to be checked for dust once a week, and floor is to be checked for vacuuming.
11) Gloves are required for cleaning. Walmart carries gloves that can be used for cleaning, so you may add that to your supply list.
12) Storage room is to be kept organized. All supplies for service should be protected or covered, such as; overhead lamps. All material should always be on hand; Memorial books, thank you cards, bags and flags.
13) All plumbing problems should be reported as soon as possible; restrooms, embalming room, and break room. The funeral home sometimes floods, so make sure you periodically check for any signs of leaks and such.
14) Make sure a mop head is attached to a mop in the embalming room in case of spills, leaks or just GP. A mop should be in place at all times.
EQUIPMENT DETAIL
15) Keep all register stands and church trucks cleaned and polished weekly. Church trucks must always be dust free and shining. Register stands should be cleaned before delivery to a family home.
16) Flags, reserve signs and parking signs should be accounted for and ready for services.
17) You are to use your checklist to make sure all equipment that is out on a service be returned and put in its proper place in the storage area.
18) The storage room should be swept as needed, and cobwebs removed.
19) Inventory should be done in the storage room by you when materials are low.
VEHICLE CARE
20) Limos and Hearses are to be detailed properly; cleaned, shined, gassed up and ready for services.
21) Vehicles are to be serviced when the problem occurs (please do not wait for all vehicles to break down at once). The cars must be kept in good running condition at all times.
22) All repairs that are needed on all vehicles are to be reported as soon as it happens.
23) Periodically, make sure tires are safe and lights are working
24) When cleaning vehicles and there is time, split up the detail so you are not gone over 20-30 minutes at a time. If demand calls for more time be sure to let management know in advanced
25) Will work funeral services as needed.
26) Will perform removals, pick up death certificates, and other job duties as needed.
27) Will cover front desk when body is laying in state, or when needed.
28) Must be able to properly answer the telephone
29) Must be able to read and write.
Qualifications:
-Some college preferred.
-Must have an outgoing personality.
- Must have a good driving record.
- Must have some customer service experience.
- Male preferred.
- Proficiency in English for clear communication.
- Must be dependable.
