Populous’ New York Office The New York office opened in early 2016. The office is now located in the famed Starrett-Lehigh Building, on 26th Street in between 11th Avenue and the West Side Highway. The office focuses on a wide range of project types and services including sports and entertainment venues, theatre and performing arts, aviation, convention centers, hospitality, mixed-use projects and interior design. It is an office founded on critical thinking and an ability to leverage digital technologies in service of exceptional design. Populous’ New York office is a dynamic and growing group with a wide-range of skills and experience.
What Your Day Could Consist Of:
  • Participate in selected marketing and business development opportunities.
  • Prepare fee proposals including work plans to identify scope, staffing and schedule; Participate in the negotiation of contracts.
  • Define staff requirements for projects as needed or directed.
  • Manage project budget, work plans, consultants and schedule. Track fees and costs for conformance to contract.
  • Participate in the preparation and execution of subcontracts for consultants.
  • Build and sustain a cooperative and respectful work relationship with clients, ownership teams and representatives.
  • Foster and maintain a collaborative professional working relationship with the Project Leadership Team (i.e. Project Designer, Project Architect, and Principal in Charge).
  • Provide leadership including professional development coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of assigned projects.
  • Foster on-going communication through team meetings, minutes, and up-date memos to project team including consultants.
  • Ensure project documentation and are in compliance with Populous standards and policies.
  • Contribute to design development, drawings, in support of overall project goals when requested and directed by the Principal-in-Charge.
  • Create respectful associations with contractors upholding the design teams interests.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements For Success:
  • Understanding and proficiency in advanced project delivery methods, drawing software and production a strong plus.
  • Skilled in relationship-building and problem-solving.
  • Strong organizational skills including time management and planning.
  • Thorough knowledge of design, construction methodology and material application.
  • Strong understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets with an interest in financial management required.
  • Ability to manage multiple small to medium size projects of a complex scope.
  • Great communication skills both oral and written.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, particularly Excel, required.
  • Proficiency in Deltek Vision or Vantagepoint preferred.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management or Engineering.
  • 12 years of experience in an architectural or architectural engineering practice with 10 years prior project management experience in all phases of projects.
  • Project Management experience with sport facilities, convention centers, hospitality, and aviation a strong plus.
  • Licensed Architect, Interior Designer, Engineer or LEED accreditation preferred.
  • NCARB registration preferred.
  • PMP certification or similar coursework preferred.
Additional Details:
  • Travel will be required.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
Compensation:
  • The projected salary range for this opportunity is $116,696 - $148,787 annually, and may be more or less depending on skills, experience and education.
