Position: The Director of Social Services monitors, supervises, and evaluates the day-to-day operations of the hospital’s social work department & therapy services. This position provides monitoring, supervision and evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of social services furnished. Social work functions may include the following functions: Intake or admission screening, psychosocial assessment of a newly admitted patient; developing an update or detailed re-assessment of the patient; high-social risk case finding; and discharge planning process.
Education/Experience: Master’s Degree (MSW) in Social Work from an Accredited School required. License preferred.
Three (3) years of clinical experience in a psychiatric setting with at least one (1) year of supervisory/administrative experience.
Duties, but not limited to:
1. Provides clinical leadership, management and supervision to the social services department.
2. Provides monitoring, supervision and evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of social services furnished to include:
· Intake or admission screening
· Psychosocial assessment of a newly admitted patient
· Develop an update or detailed re-assessment of the patient
· High-social risk case finding
· Discharge planning process
3. Responsible for continuity of care in the provision of comprehensive services and facilities and coordinates communication with other Social Service Staff
4. Provides ongoing, appropriate training to Social Service staff and patients
5. Reviews all admissions for appropriate therapist assignment
6. Coordinates schedule changes, staff coverage and group clinical format
7. Ensure quality assurance in Social Services’ delivery, including clinical care and documentation
8. Provides ongoing active review of chart documentation to ensure compliance with Social Work functions including all aspects of #2 above
9. Provides regular reports to the Director of Clinical Services
10. Maintains Social Service compliance with all applicable Joint Commission and CMS standards, including all internal TJC, CMS and licensure clinical documentation standards of department staff (quality and quantity)
11. Carries a clinical case load for patient care
12. Works with Risk Management/Compliance to formulate written plan for Social Services
13. Attends in-service training and participates in other educational activities as required.
14. Interfaces with financial business development and administrative teams to coordinate patient benefit status, patient treatment needs and the resulting length of stay
15. Exhibits current knowledge of human behavior, psychology and mental health issues.
16. Supervises the discharge planning process to include but not limited to communication with family members and referrals to outside agencies, state agencies, and other community resources.
17. Displays the ability to serve in a mentor role to social services staff.
18. Promotes an environment that is conducive to learning. Partners with local schools in facilitating social work internship experiences within the facility and provides overall leadership to this process.
19. Participates in performance improvement activities including ongoing chart audits, topic-focused taskforce meetings, committee work, etc.
20. Ability to work in a collaborative manner with patients, families, courts, and all community partners.
