Community Outreach, Development, and Language Access VISTA
Mission
The mission of the Portland Public Schools is to ensure a challenging, relevant, and joyful education that empowers every learner to make a difference in the world. We build relationships among families, educators, and the community to promote the healthy development and academic achievement of every learner.
Objectives
The AmeriCorps VISTA member’s service is driven by our organization’s mission to ensure equal access to educational opportunities that address poverty in our community. We will support language minority students in their post-secondary aspirations and guide them through that process during their secondary career. We will engage parents and community members from underrepresented groups through volunteerism and participation in workshop sessions for parents and community partners on issues related to raising children in today’s world. We will partner with community-based organizations in bringing their programs to expand learning opportunities for both students and parents. This is a full-time, in-person role.
