School nurse needed for a large, busy school serving a diverse community of students in grades Pre-k-5 for the 24/25 school year. Responsibilities include: treating students with injuries and illnesses, developing health plans for chronic physical and mental health needs, creating and maintaining health and immunization records and collaborating with a multidisciplinary school team and a district nurse team to promote health and well-being for students' optimal learning. Candidate must be comfortable both working independently and as part of a team. Position may include district responsibilities as needed. Schedule is Monday,Tuesday and every other Wednesday.

Required education and experience:
  • Must possess a current license to practice as a professional, registered nurse in Maine
  • Must hold a school nurse certification or be eligible for certification from Maine Department of Education
  • Must hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing or other field
  • Must have at least three years experience as a professional nurse
  • Experience in school nursing or public health nursing preferred
Desired knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Experience working with children ages 4-12
  • Demonstrates understanding of healthy childhood/ growth and development
  • Demonstrates knowledge or understanding of core public health or community health principles, including role of social determinants of health
  • Experience working with families and children from diverse ethnic, linguistic, socioeconomic and cultural communities, including those facing food and housing insecurity.
  • Demonstrates understanding of health inequities and their impact on childhood and adolescent development and learning
  • Ability to be flexible and change based on needs of school and/or district.
