Portola is looking for coffee lovers to join us as baristas who are lucky to serve some of the best customers. We are specifically looking for someone who can work on Saturdays and Sundays with flexibility to work opens, mids, or closes. We are also looking for the ability to work 1-2 additional days during the week as needed. Portola Coffee Roasters has been on the forefront of the specialty coffee industry for over a decade and our world revolves around the “journey.” And for all of those involved, that journey will be different – yet the same. That is because we, and all those involved in our mission, are driven by the pursuit of perfection. Along the way we forge relationships as we work to bring our coffees from the farm to the customer's cup. So, even though each route is unique, they all lead to the same thing – an expertly crafted cup with a taste that embodies all of the hard work that went into its creation.

Barista responsibilities include educating customers on our drink menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders. To be successful in this role, you should have 2 years of specialty coffee experience, genuinely enthusiastic customer service skills and knowledge of different brewing methods. You should be able to work various shifts, including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers as they enter
• Answer customer questions regarding beverages, ingredients and merchandise
• Take orders while paying attention to details
• Prepare beverages following recipes
• Serve beverages, pastries, prepared grab 'n' go snacks and bottled beverages
• Receive and process payments
• Keep the bar area clean with a "Clean As You Go" Mentality

Skills

• 2 Years in Specialty Coffee
• Ability to pour latte art
• Hands-on experience with brewing equipment
