DescriptionJoin a leading staffing agency in the job placement industry as we seek a Supervisor of Payroll for our client in Federal Way, WA, within the healthcare sector. This role is essential in providing supervision to the payroll team, ensuring timely and accurate payment and reporting for a multi-state payroll, including special payrolls such as severance pay and bonuses. You will also review metrics and audit controls for compliance while collaborating with various teams within the Payroll department and across the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily payroll operations according to established processes and standards, including large bonus processing and year-end reporting.
  • Manage bi-weekly payroll processing and ensure all deadlines are met, including the review of audit reports.
  • Review payroll protocols and procedures, working with the Payroll Support Team on processing worksheets and SOX documents.
  • Ensure appropriate backup documentation for biweekly payroll.
  • Train and implement process improvements for Payroll Coordinators.
  • Recommend changes to enhance the efficiency and performance of the Payroll Department.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships and open communication with all areas of payroll and field locations.
  • Conduct random reviews for adherence to departmental standards and provide feedback.
  • Stay informed on regulatory issues affecting Payroll.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, with limited travel as needed.
Teammate Management
  • Provide leadership to direct reports and foster a positive work environment.
  • Ensure timely completion of all company employment processes in compliance with policies and applicable laws.
  • Facilitate teammate development and maintain familiarity with company programs impacting teammates.
  • Manage employment activities including hiring, promotions, evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Address teammate relations issues and escalate to the Manager as necessary.
  • Review and approve time cards for biweekly payroll.
  • Develop educational programs to keep teammates informed on policies and regulations.
  • Maintain and communicate facility emergency management programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in a related area preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years payroll experience in a multi-state, multi-EIN environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply relevant laws and processes accurately.
  • Working knowledge of payroll processes and compliance with payroll laws and regulations.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation preferred.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of payroll and supervisory experience required.
  • Intermediate computer skills, proficiency in MS Word and Outlook, and advanced skills in MS Excel required.
  • Experience with large-scale electronic payroll systems preferred.
  • Proven ability to motivate others and handle interpersonal situations effectively.
