Assist the Log Yard Supervisor in coordinating and directing the activities of the St. Maries Complex Log yard to maximize productivity and minimize cost while maintaining safety and quality. Assist the Log Yard Supervisor in leading production personnel. Perform other duties as assigned. Position reports to the Log Yard Supervisor.

The hourly rate for this position is $42.90.

Leadership and Personnel

• Coordinate and communicate the daily operations of the log yard with the Log Yard Supervisor.

• Assist the Log Yard Supervisor with training and development of employees through coaching, and feedback.

• Encourage employee involvement, information sharing, problem solving.

• Monitor employee performance and adherence to respective rules, standards, and expectations. Maintain personnel records and execute performance evaluations.

• Interface daily with log truck drivers, peers, maintenance, foresters, and contractors.

• Assist Log Yard Supervisor to ensure premium service is delivered to external and internal customers.

Safety & Environmental

• Instruct, maintain, and promote a safe working atmosphere while encouraging safe working behaviours and employee accountability.

• Lead and participate in all safety activities. Adhere to all Supervisor Safety Rules and Responsibilities. Regularly audit employee’s safety performance.

• Maintain compliance with all corporate, state, and federal environmental rules and regulations.

Quality and Production

• Monitor costs, quality, and help Log Yard Supervisor with cost reduction efforts.

• Monitor, record, and give feedback on all aspects of log quality.

• Work with Log Yard Supervisor to have accurate inventories and help maintain the closed deck system.

• Assist Log Yard Supervisor in RTL (Return to Log) studies as well as requested sorts.

Requirements:

• At least (2-4) years Log Yard or Sort Yard experience preferred.

• Ability to identify Western Softwood Species.

• Log scaling experience preferred (ability to obtain a log Scale license).

• Operation of heavy equipment preferred. (ability to learn to operate wheeled equipment)

• Wood products manufacturing experience in a lead role preferred.

• High school diploma or GED required,

• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet research, and log inventory programs.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to motivate others.

• Demonstrated expertise with solving problems related to people, process, and equipment.

• Demonstrated organizational skills.
