PowerSchool Group LLC is Hiring an Associate Editor Near Folsom, CA

Overview

PowerSchool's Customer Education division develops and delivers training for K-12 education customers on-site, at conferences, and online. They strive to enhance customer success with PowerSchool products by delivering engaging, job-centered, practical, and user-friendly training tutorials and materials. The team produces technical and narrative content for conferences, trainer presentations, eLearning environments, and videos. Topics include subjects ranging from technical software processes to K-12 professional development concepts.

The Associate Editor works under close supervision of the Manager, Professional Services to review, edit, and rewrite instructional materials, in partnership with authors. The Associate Editor ensures that all deliverables meet the Customer Education style guide and quality standards. This position works closely with Instructional Designers, eLearning Developers, Multi-Media Designers, and Graphic Designers to produce training curriculum that meets customers' needs and requirements.

Responsibilities

The Associate Editor represents the reader of Customer Education materials. In that role, they will conduct at least two types of edits:• A mechanical style edit to ensure text meets style guide standards• A language edit to ensure that materials are easy to readThe Associate Editor will be involved in the training materials development process by:• Reading text files and transcripts to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax• Reviewing text and eLearning course files for completeness, accuracy, and correctness of language use• Learning to look for inconsistencies of thought, development, or organization• Conferring with authors regarding changes in content, style, or organization• Revising manuscripts to meet predetermined standards of style and accuracy

Additional responsibilities include:• Providing status updates as required• Attending team and product-related meetings, as needed• Gaining familiarity with the features, processes, functions, and uses of PowerSchool's K-12 Technology products• All other responsibilities assigned by management

Qualifications

QualificationsTo be considered for and to perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

Qualifications include: Education and/or Experience• Associate's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience)• Minimum of one year of experience as a writer or editor • Emerging computer skills with some proficiency in MS Office applications• Experience in K-12 education a plusSpecialized Knowledge or Certifications• Must have basic experience reviewing: o Instructional media, including highly visual and web-based media o Technical writing, news copy, or creative writing • Emerging knowledge of: Articulate 360 (including Rise and Storyline) and learning management systems• Emerging knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, Jira, and other technical collaborative environments

Must have a basic understanding of: o Editorial review process o Adult learning theories o Instructional development and design methods (using highly visual and web-based media) o Current education trends o Must be willing to complete an editing assessment as part of the application processSkills and Abilities• Have strong knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar• Write clearly, concisely, and accurately with focus on adult learner audience • Employ good attention to details while editing• Assimilate technical and academic information under the guidance of subject matter experts• Support the creation of clear conceptual, procedural, and instructional material under aggressive project schedules• Think flexibly• Participate in and respond appropriately with feedback throughout a rigorous review process• Give and receive constructive feedback graciously• Follow defined processes and procedures• Work on a variety of tasks and complete them in a timely manner• Organize and prioritize work• Demonstrate good collaboration and communication skills in a geographically distributed team• Demonstrate emerging knowledge of and the ability to keep current with media and instructional technology literature and other areas of expertise

A reasonable estimate of the base compensation range for this position is $50,000-$72,000. The compensation range is specific to the United States and incorporates many factors including but not limited to an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience and training; licensures, degrees, and certifications; internal equity; internal pay ranges; and market data/range parameters.
