Dental Assistant
The dental assistant shall provide dental support services during clinic operating hours as scheduled not to exceed 40 hours per week. Regular hours of clinic are from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The clinic is not open on federally recognized holidays or certain day(s) of closure pursuant to an Executive Order by the President of the United States. Inclement weather
conditions or facility issues (electrical, water, etc.) may also hinder the normal operating hours and notice of closure will be provided as soon as is practicable by the Warm Springs Service Unit administrative staff.
B. The dental assistant will perform dental duties to focus on providing dental support to providers in the dental clinic. Assist patients and clinic staff in the dental department. Supports a culture that fully embraces internal, external and organizational customer service.
C. The dental assistant restores teeth after preparation has been accomplished. This includes selection, contouring and placement of matrices, placement of bases and liners and packing, carving and polishing routine and complex alloy restorations, which include pin retention and cusp build-ups.
Performs Other Related Work, To Include
F. Perform dental laboratory procedures such as pouring and trimming models, fabricating custom trays and bite rims, mounts casts on articular, and pours final impressions.
G. Provide a variety of general support work in support of dentists and the Dental Department, to include:

Performs Other Related Work, To Include
- Place and finish routine and complex composite restorations, which include multiple surfaces and angle replacement
- Place and contour temporary restorations
- Fabricate and place temporary crowns and bridges
- Retract gingivae from teeth with retraction cord in preparation for final crown and bridge impressions.
- Applies endodontic medicaments to teeth as prescribed by the dentist.
- Applies desensitizing and removes sutures, and takes preliminary impressions for study models.
F. Perform dental laboratory procedures such as pouring and trimming models, fabricating custom trays and bite rims, mounts casts on articular, and pours final impressions.
G. Provide a variety of general support work in support of dentists and the Dental Department, to include:
- Clean, sharpen, package, and sterilize all dental instruments and ensures proper storage
- Perform oral prophylaxis and applies topical fluoride treatments.
- Operate ultrasonic scaler (cavitron) and uses hand instruments to remove visible calculus.
- Train and guide lower-graded dental assistants.
- Apply pit and fissure sealants.
- Relay post-treatment instructions to patients and motivates and instructs them in proper home care and disease prevention techniques.
- Order necessary dental supplies and properly stocks the clinic at all times.
- Responsible for day to day maintenance of clinic areas, to include minor equipment adjustments and cleanliness of clinic areas.
- Take and record patient blood pressure.
RequirementsApply with the following documents and information:
- To perform expanded functions in Oregon under the supervision of a licensed dentist, a dental assistant must posses an Oregon Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) certificate.
- Active AHA BLS or willing to obtain prior to start
- 3 or 4 References (name/#/email and how they know you) 2 must be previous supervisors
- Must be willing and able to pass Federal Security Clearance
