Monitors operations process flow and quality of production parts. Troubleshoots equipment problems and process problems. Installs new equipment and documents all process signals and corresponding corrective action.
This Automation Technician provides technical assistance, emergency troubleshooting and maintenance of
computer controlled systems including robotic devices. In addition, the automation technician is responsible for
programming and troubleshooting, optimizing efficiency, implementation of additional applications, and providing
costing information for new product opportunities. Knowledge of robot programming, control systems, and
production automation are key elements of this position.

Reports To

• Process Engineer

Education/Experience

• Associates degree in Manufacturing or equivalent experience preferred, high school diploma or equivalent

required.

• Minimum of 1 year experience operating CNC Swiss Style Lathe’s, Rollomatic Grinder’s, EDM’s, Mills

and/or related equipment

• Working knowledge of robot programming such as Fanuc and Universal
• Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)

Essential Functions, Knowledge And Competencies

• Strong computer skills with a background in programming
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time (8-10 hours or more), frequent bending and twisting
• The ability to envision the most effective approach manufacturing a part and turn this into an efficient

manufacturing program

• Excellent problem solving skills
• Ability to develop training programs and to effectively communicate and train personnel
• The knowledge and ability to apply lean manufacturing principles and techniques
• Must have vision correctable to 20/20

Responsibility/Authority

• Provides technical expertise to program and maintain automation equipment and to optimize the utilization
• and efficiency of automation equipment
• Develops automation training programs, maintenance schedules and is the company’s resident expert for
• automation equipment
• Works with engineering, vendors and machine manufacturers to optimize machine output through machine
• and tooling improvements
• Controls all program master files and maintains program standardization
• Leads the effort to reduce setup times, establish standard operating procedures and provide specialized
• training where required
• Works with engineering to provide accurate setup time and cycle time estimates
• Audits to ensure compliance to established standards and recommends corrective actions
• Occasionally runs production as needed when manpower requires it
