Job Title: Mental Health CounselorProgram: School Based - Asbury Park High SchoolLocation: 1003 Sunset Avenue, Asbury Park New Jersey 07712 Position Type: Full TimeJob Description/SummaryThe Mental Health Counselor provides counseling and crisis intervention services to students through various modalities (i.e. individual, group, and family). The Mental Health Counselor also facilitates prevention programming and coordinates with staff to conduct school and community events.
MHC will receive referrals and conduct individual, group, and family counseling using modalities that are evidence based and consistent with adolescent stage of development. MHC is responsible for accepting the highest level of social, emotional, behavioral disorders and implementing effective student-driven treatment plans to demonstrate successful psychological outcomes. MHC will also provide consultation to school staff on mental health awareness of students as well as providing guidance and supervision to other program staff.
Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development;
• Effectively treats adults, adolescents, and children with a wide range of social/emotional/behavioral identifiers;
• Coordinates services with child study team, guidance departments and other district personnel;
• Provides linkages to students through community agencies, e.g., DCPP, FCYU, OC Probation Dept. etc.;
• Provides clinical supervision to other staff members informally;

Competencies

• Proficiently communicates- written and verbal
• Working with adolescents/youth and families
• Bilingual preferred (but not required)

QualificationsEducation: Master's degree in the field (counseling/social work)
Licensure: State of New Jersey LAC, LPC, LSW, LCSW
