I. Position Summary: This position supports the mission of Presbyterian/St Luke’s Medical Center of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. A skilled member of the health care team who, working under the supervision of the lactation program, provides patient care. The lactation consultant takes brief patient histories and performs physical examinations under the lactation consultant’s scope of care. Develops treatment plans and explains them to patients.When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

II. Position Requirements:
A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate Registered Nurse license. BLS required at hire. NRP required within 90 days of hire. IBCLC certification required.
B. Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
C. Experience: Prior experience in counseling breast-feeding women.
D. Special Qualifications: Strong interpersonal skills. Adept at use of adult learning principles
E. Clinical experience in the hospital setting as a lactation consultant preferred, will consider new IBCLC’s with recent clinical experience in Mom Baby or NICU. NICU background is preferred.
