SummaryJob Description
Under the immediate supervision of the Associate Director of Community Strategy, and under the general supervision of the Director of Community Services, the Community Strategist I focuses on implementation of PreventEd community substance use programs in the region. This is an entry level position.
Responsibilities
  • Participate as a team member in the formulation of program and/or agency planning, and in the coordination and implementation of PreventEd community programs.
  • Serve as liaison to such agencies, schools, and organizations which have an interest in prevention and/or coalition work.
  • Provide consulting, promotion, training, follow-up, and technical assistance to participating communities, organizations, and schools. Establish and support new partners and/or coalitions.
  • Spend a minimum of 80% of time in community on activities such as: facilitating programs and services, interacting directly with partners, providing technical assistance for coalitions or attending other community-based events.
  • Carry a workload of a minimum of 3-6 community coalitions or implementation of agency projects.
  • Provide presentations, electronic and printed resources focused on subjects that serve as a call to action for those interested in substance misuse prevention. Topics may include strategic planning, advocacy, ATOD information, risk and protective factors, and coalition building.
  • Coordinate, implement and facilitate all project activities as outlined in funding agreements.
  • Conduct minimum of three Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainings and/or a minimum of nine instruction hours of Teen Mental Health First Aid.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with community contacts and team members.
  • Document all aspects of the job in compliance with agency, contractual, and funding requirements and needs.
  • Perform all other related work as assigned.

Specialized Knowledge, Experience And Training
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in social work, communications, marketing, public/community health, community organization, human services, or related fields. master’s degree preferred.
  • Preferred experience in public speaking, conducting outreach, community engagement, case management, and/or program implementation.
  • Strong relationships and contacts in religious communities, government agencies, school districts, not for profits, and grassroots community groups.
  • Some knowledge of issues related to substance misuse and the prevention programs and treatment techniques used.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
  • E-mail, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, data entry
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This position works primarily in an office setting at the PreventEd agency location with possible local travel in the community. Must have a valid Driver’s License, reliable transportation.
Physical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The physical requirements of this job includes: sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs on a regular basis; lifting up to 25lbs, pulling and/or pushing on occasion.
