Senior AIX Systems Engineer

My name is Bill Stevens and I have a new contract to hire hybrid scheduled Senior AIX Systems Engineer opportunity available for a major firm with offices in Holmdel, New Jersey and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania that could be of interest to you, please review my specification below and I am available at any time to speak with you so please feel free to call me. The work schedule will be a hybrid one, three days a week in either of the firms office and two days remote.

The ideal candidate should also possess a green card or be of citizenship.

This position pays $80.00 per hour on a w-2 hourly basis or $90.00 per hour on a Corp basis. The Corp rate is for independent contractors only and not third-party firms. No Visa entanglements and no H1-B holding companies.

The responsibility of this position is to oversee and assist with major project initiatives, as well as provide support for AIX Unix servers in development, QA/UAT, and production environments. This position requires in-depth knowledge of AIX 7 operating systems. The position requires superior troubleshooting skills, capacity and performance experience and a thorough understanding of AIX HMC and VIO technologies as well as experience with Power hardware. Position requires experience with Red Hat Linux in VMware and AWS environments.

Specific Responsibilities:

Provide day to day operational support for the Linux and AIX environments including OS upgrades and hardware installation

24x7 "On-call" support required

Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for OS and hardware issues for our AIX and Linux servers.

Monitor system health and remediate identified problems.

Diagnose and remediate of technical problems/outages.

Routinely review system resource allocations and application needs to ensure business process are completing within identified SLA’s.

Frequently monitor and review system capacities.

Qualifications:

5 years of experience in AIX and Linux.

Expert in the understanding of the AIX and Red Hat operating systems.

Full understanding of LPAR creation, HMC management, VIO servers and NIM for AIX

Understanding of managing Linux servers in VMware and AWS

Understanding of patching Linux and AIX servers

Full and in-depth knowledge of UNIX-based network protocols.

Strong scripting skills.

Expert level understanding of the philosophies of operating system performance tuning.

Strong understanding of files systems, concepts, and logical volume management.

Strong troubleshooting skills.

Solid verbal and written communications skills.
