Job Title:Lead Manager, Child Nutrition Wage/Hour Status: Non-ExemptReports to: Director of Child Nutrition Pay Grade: 226 DaysDept. /School: Child Nutrition Date Revised: 06/12/2024PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Child Nutrition Lead Manager will train new cafeteria managers and provide support for current cafeteria managers. The Lead Manager shall partner with the Child Nutrition Field Supervisor, school district, and community to solicit support for the development of a sound nutrition assistance food program while following federal, state, and local guidelines.QualificationsEducation/Certification:High School Diploma or GED required
Certified Food Manager required within first 30 days of employment
Valid TX Driver's License required
Required Experience: Minimum three years of Food Service Management, preferably in child nutrition.
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions; knows methods of effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of food production including portion control, evaluation of food quality during preparation and service and basic food preparation techniques that are used in producing large quantities of food items at the school level and for catering functions.
  • Understands the importance of following recipes, procedures and production/work schedules to maintain an efficient and effective operation, while practicing the principles of work simplification related to food preparation.
  • Knows the federal, state, local and district policies, rules and regulations regarding the Child Nutrition Program.
  • Knows the importance of accurate record-keeping and the importance of proper cash collection procedures for the school.
  • Knows school, department and district policies and procedures and correct methods for operating cleaning and maintaining food service equipment.
  • Knows importance of ongoing training to improve job skills and pursuing state/national certifications.
  • Knows when decisions can be made independently or when consultation with supervisor is needed.
  • Knows the importance of helping inexperienced employees and explains instructions/guidelines clearly to others.
  • Knows the lines of communication within the school and school district, including chain of authority and levels of job responsibilities.
  • Knows the importance of customer service at all levels of the foodservice operations.
Essential Responsibilities And Duties
  • Ensures all meals served, meet current nutritional standards and menu plan requirements, including children with special diet needs.
  • Trains, performs, and manages appropriate communication skills with all customers.
  • Trains to ensure integrity and accountability of the program through compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Ensures accountability of recorded documentation for compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Train new managers and support current managers to operate the school nutrition program within established guidelines for a financial management system that provides a cost-effective program of high integrity.
  • Provides effective office organization and good paper management techniques to ensure all records and supporting documentation are maintained in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and policies.
  • Trains to provide an environment conducive to protect the health and well-being of the school's children through high levels of sanitation standards.
  • Maintains standards of personal appearance and hygiene according to district/department policies and procedures and knows the established rules for district HACCP plan and practicing safe food handling.
Food Production
  • Applies management principles to establish and maintain high standards of control for quality food production.
  • Utilizes training techniques for preparing and maintaining records that reflect an accurate report of planned menus, food produced, and food discarded.
  • Ensures the programs credibility through daily monitoring of food production procedures.
Personnel Management
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors and administrative staff and district personnel.
  • Creates an atmosphere for employer productivity and satisfaction in the work place.
  • Implements time management techniques to accomplish job tasks with efficiency and maximum development of human resources.
  • Integrates on-the-job training and standards for evaluating new managers performance.
  • Follows and applies school district and department policies uniformly to all employees.
  • Gives clear directions, instructions, information and makes available all policies and procedures of the Child Nutrition Department
  • Uses constructive methods to correct employees and resolve employee conflict through use of good communication skills.
  • Listens effectively to employees and others.
  • Support in the processing of free and reduced-price meal applications
  • Help operate and staff summer school sites as necessary
  • Assist in opening and planning of new schools
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by members of the Child Nutrition administration team.
  • Complete 10 hours of required Continued Education/Training annually.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental FactorsTools/Equipment Used: Small measuring utensils, ovens, mixer, vertical mixer, chopper, steamer, top burners, kettles, scales, table top can opener, knives, pots, bun pans, steam table pans, slicer, grater, ice machine, vegetable chopper, computer, printer, copier, calculator, multi-line telephone, fax or any other pieces of equipment in order to complete the assigned job.
Posture and Motion: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stoop, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Continual walking; frequent climbing (ladder), grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching/overhead reaching.
Lifting: Frequent moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds).
Environment: Work inside in commercial kitchen environment; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, extreme humidity, noise, vibration, microwaves, biological hazards (bacteria, mold, fungi), chemical hazards (fumes, vapors, gases), electrical hazards; work with hands in water; work around machinery with moving parts; work on slippery surfaces; requires travel throughout the district to school sites; subject to frequent deadlines.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
