The QA & Food Safety Manager will be responsible for management activities ensuring product safety and quality based on customer and regulatory specifications. The QA & Food Safety Manager will partner with management from other areas of the facility (Plant, Production, Storage etc.) to maintain adherence to established PPC GMP programs that maximize operational efficiency in a compliant environment. In his/her absence the Senior QA Tech will assume duties.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and PPC defined food safety and sanitation standards, systems, procedures, and practices. Examples include Vendor Certification, Inbound Inspection of Raw Materials, Outbound Inspection of Finished Product, Microbiological Testing, Lot Tracking, daily and periodic Sanitation, HACCP, Pest Control, Food Safety, Food Defense, SQF, Internal and Third-Party Auditing, and Quality Systems Training.
Ensuring compliance with all product and process quality parameters and standards including formulations, specifications, approved methods, procedures, practices and systems. Examples include internal process audits, product quality evaluation, foreign material tracking, and metal detection monitoring.
Obtaining excellent quality results, as measured by customer complaint frequency, internal and external facility and operational audit scores, quality systems compliance, and other formal and informal feedback mechanisms.
Managing adequacy and accuracy of technical data, including specifications for product and process parameters and procedures, labeling details, formulations, recipes, and lot documentation.
Managing departmental activities to comply with all applicable safety laws and regulations, as well as PPC
safety policies, procedures and standards.
Overseeing in-house analytical testing including Aflatoxin and environmental (ATP) as well as sampling needed for outsourced product and environmental testing.
Managing regular inspections of production facility and warehouse areas.
Completing and approving various documentation required by USDA, FDA, FSMA, HACCP, HARPC, the Policy and Procedure Manual, the Pest and Rodent Control Program, MSDS information, labeling and all other records as needed such as Customer required documents.
Tracking QA records including Change Control, Customer Requests, Deviations, Action Items, Customer
Complaints, and Customer Required Documents.
Managing Complaint Investigations, Root Cause Analysis, and Corrective Actions/Preventative Actions (CAPA) with a continuous improvement mindset.
Training QA staff on policies and procedures as necessary. Managing career development of QA staff.
Conducing orientation and training programs for all full-time and temporary employees and maintaining training logs for all employees for proper hygiene and sanitation practices.
Managing assigned Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) functions including specific OSHA requirements.
Any other duties as may be assigned.2
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
BS Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related science. 5 years of experience in Food Technology, Regulatory Affairs, and/or Quality Assurance/SQF Certification. Technical knowledge and good reasoning abilities. Effective
organizational, communication, and time management skills. Extensive knowledge of FDA and USDA regulations as it relates to Dry Foods and/or Peanut/Treenut industry. Computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint,
Outlook, and Microsoft Excel for customized spreadsheet creation.
PREFERRED SKILLS
BS Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related science with PCQI Certification.
Previous experience designing GMPs, SSOPs, Pest Control Programs, HACCP Programs, Food Defense Programs, HARPC, Food Safety Plan, and SQF Practitioner.
Food Defense Coordinator, PCQI certification is a must.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
QA & Food Safety Manager will work closely with and under the direction of the President.
QA & Food Safety Manager will work closely with Plant Manager, Production Supervisors and Leads to ensure continuity with Customer requirements.
Experienced with all aspects of FSMA as of Calendar Year 2021 and all subsequent revisions or additions.
Summary
Auditing, Food & Beverage, R & D, FDA, GMP, USDA Regulations, Plant Operations. SQF Practitioner, PCQI(Preventive Controls Qualified Individual). USDA commodity inspection and regulatory compliance experience with strong background in treenut/peanut industry. Strong food safety leader and quality assurance professional.
