Applications Lab Technician
Department: R & D, Flavors
Location: Carol Stream
Type: Full-Time
The Application Lab Technician will assist lab employees with current and commercialized projects, including base build out, finished sample preparation, as well as manage sample and raw material library in accordance with lab needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned
  • Prepare commercialized product scale-up samples to be used as production control retains.
• • Manage multiple requests to prepare product samples for new and continuing projects
  • Maintain demo sample library and stock
  • Work with product managers, sample lab and procurement to manage raw material inventory for the lab.
  • Assist applications scientists with any customer visits (on-site and off-site) to prepare demo samples, revisions, samples to take with when visit is over, etc
  • Execute sensory tests as needed.
  • Assist applications with flavoring projects and finished sample preparation when needed
  • Additional duties as deemed necessary by the Manager.

  • Experience will be taken into consideration. Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or university in a scientific discipline with three to five years related lab experience and/or training. Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent from a four-year college or university in scientific discipline with one to two years related lab experience and/or training.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated technical competence and initiative. Note: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. This document does not create an employment contract, implied or otherwise, other than an “at-will” employment relationship.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret regulatory information, industry standards, and International and Federal Food Regulations. Ability to communicate with all levels throughout the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Thorough understanding of unit conversions, nutritional analysis calculations.
  • Ability to make educated judgments on correctness, accuracy, and appropriateness of information. Must be able to organize, prioritize and make decisions with minimal supervision. Must be able to switch task direction and focus when prompted
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Familiarity or general aptitude for Formulary Databases, CRM, and ERP systems is preferred but not required.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work environment is normally a lab setting. Must be able to make frequent rounds in a warehouse environment
  • Ability to view a computer screen and type for extended hours
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to wear any required PPE such as scrubs, hair net, lab coat, and facemask
• Ability to work in a packaging area with a moderate powder substance in the air with or without a respirator • Ability to work around a variety of different smells and aromas • Ability to adjust work schedule as business needs require.
