Job PurposeIn your role as Attorney you will serve as in-house counsel for Priority supporting field operations in the states of Michigan and Indiana. Legal support provided by this position will be focused primarily on small to medium commercial/business matters as well as litigation. The position will also contribute to and interact with other staff as necessary on waste, recycling, and other facility development and permitting, public sector contracts, government and regulatory affairs, general environmental and regulatory matters, health and safety, and real estate, as well as support additional corporate transactions. The position is located in Clinton Township Michigan. Some travel will be required.
Duties And ResponsibilitiesDuties include but are not limited to:
  • Assists in preparing, reviewing, and negotiating legal documents on the Company’s behalf, including a variety of contracts and bid documents, and assist management in representing the organization in legal disputes and transactions
  • Provides legal support on facility development, permitting, permit modifications, and administrative hearings and appeals;
  • Provide general legal support to Company sales force including contract preparation, review, and enforcement, and customer service and customer relations issues
  • Provides general legal support and advice to collection, disposal, recycling, and related field operations
  • Conducts risk assessments in connection with customer, vendor, operations, industry and/or business issues, and advise management on most appropriate response or action
  • Provides general legal support and advice on competitive concerns and general antitrust issues
  • Advises Company personnel on corporate policies and procedures
  • Ensures compliance with basic corporate formalities in the context of an enterprise consisting of numerous individual corporate entities
  • Reinforces Company compliance culture and business principles including “success with integrity;”
  • Interfaces with numerous departments and functions within the Company to work effectively and provide a high-level of service to our business partners.
The Successful Candidate Profile Includes
  • Juris Doctorate and three (3) or more years of previous relevant legal experience, including as in-house counsel, law firm practice, and/or governmental preferred.
  • Michigan State Bar Licensure required.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite including Teams, Outlook, and Word
  • Must be able to meet deadlines regularly
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills required
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Time management skills with the emphasis on the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple detail-oriented tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and requires limited direction.
