Job Summary
Assists with the management of patient/athlete visits within the clinic performing a range of clinical responsibilities in support of the physicians. Participates in community outreach and conducts presentations on a variety of Athletic Training Topics. Supervises Student Athletic Trainers and/or Intern Athletic Trainers and mentors new staff members.Accountabilities
Interaction and management of patient visit within clinic for physician - 75%
- Interacts regularly with patients and others involved in the patient/athlete's care to incorporate an interdisciplinary treatment approach for coordinated quality care
- Obtains initial patient history, vital signs, and/or follow up status and presents to physician in preparation for their exam of patient/athlete
- Request and organization of ancillary studies (X-rays, MRI, CT scans, lab work, etc.) and presentation for physician for their review
- Preparation of patient for physician arrival, injection, or other office procedure specific to each physician preference
- Preparation of injection or other office procedure specific to each physician preference
- Post-operative dressing changes, staple or suture removal as directed by physician
- Instruction to patient to post-operative or post-injury wound care or dressing care
- Performance of knee ligament laxity or other joint tests or measurements upon direction of the physician
- Organization and disbursement of patient lab work or other office tests as directed
- Application and removal of casts, splints, etc. as directed by physician
- Patient instruction on proper care of casts, splints, etc.
- Patient instruction upon discharge for physical therapy, further studies, follow up appointments and direction for patients as they leave the clinic
- Teaches, counsels and communicates with patients, athletes, their families, coaches and others to achieve the desired outcomes
- Interacts with patients, athletes, coaches, families and colleagues to enlist their informed cooperation in establishing programs to insure the safe return to play of that athlete or activity of the patient
- Supports and provides educational material to athletes, coaches, parents, community at large on injury management and prevention
- Participates in follow-up care once the patient/athlete is ready to return to play or their desired activity
- Provides information regarding follow-up services which may include a referral to other Prisma Health/community resources (such as MD)
- Complies with departmental policies for documentation
- Responsible for taking office notes when directed by physicians

Volunteers for community events. Coordinates and presents at local/ state/regional level on Athletic Training Topics. Supports and provides educational material to athletes, coaches, parents, community at large on injury management and prevention.Coordinates/arranges sessions with local EMT/Emergency Services for coordination of care for injured athlete.Coordinates with other school personnel and parents /guardians to get HIPPA Consent and Consent to Treat signed and back in a timely manner.Calls MD, medical assistants, parents, coaches, Coordinator of Sports Medicine, Radiology, etc. to ensure ambulatory services are performed through Prisma Health as much as possible. - 10%
Provides supervision and delegates tasks to Student Athletic Trainers and/or Intern Athletic Trainer.Mentor new staff members and serve as a consultant for new staff, as needed. - 5%
Responsible for basic daily and weekly maintenance, general cleanliness, and upkeep of stock in rooms. Responsible for preparation of exam rooms for patient visits andemptyingand disposal ofbio hazardwaste and sharpscontainersas directed.Assists with care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies, as needed. - 5%
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility. Job will be considered a member of the management staff with direct reports.
Minimum Hiring Requirements
South Carolina DHEC Athletic Training Certificate required.
National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) required.
No experience is required.
